Swapped stock stereo with Sony MEX4000BT recently. But now whenever I start the car, the speakers make an annoying "thump".

Anyone have an idea on where/how to install this little sucker: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_120AFDI5V/Axxess-AFDI-5V.html

EDIT: nvm figured it out. [1] the picture on that site is wrong; [2] just need to connect to some cables between radio and car connections;

I just use a 1450 ohm resistor inline with the amp turn on wire.

spending pennys beats out spending a whole Jackson every day of the week.

EDIT: seeing how your from the great white north, you may not know that a "jackson" is $20 in presidential flash cards

Yeah they basically sell you .25$ of materials for 20 and call it a "converter" instead of resister

WOW, dude... that's brilliant.

I've been wrecking my brain trying to figure out where to get that wire. Because cheapest I found shipped to Canada is $31.55 shipped. I'll definitely try using that 1450 resistor tomorrow.

Did you also do anything to get the steering wheel audio controls working with your new stereo? The MEX4000BT came with a remote, so I didn't feel like spending another $100 just for the steering wheel controls adapter.

Knowledge is power... And profit.. Nothing wrong with charging $20 for that part..

Steering wheel control should be $45

Steering wheel control should be $45

Which one did you get and from where? Crutchfield sells them for $80/$70.

No way I'll get one for $45 in Canada. But I'll be buying some tires in the US, so I might get this adapter while I'm there.

Nope..Just shipping....

The more expensive one is amazon prime and free shipping.. The cheaper one listed $12 shipping, making it more expensive for US residents..

Not sure how that works for you though.. You could always add both to your car and calculate shipping that way..

I'm going to get the one on ebay, and just have it shipped to Ogdensburg/NY with my all-season tires, and I'll go there to pick it up. But I thought maybe they were different, because the listing on ebay says "no Bluetooth and voice recognition support".

I use the stereo's bluetooth/mic for making calls, so I'm hoping to get that call button on the wheel working (to answer call & hang up).

personally, i like the Metra AWSC a little better than the PAC swi.

it programming itself, makes all the difference!

There was a lot of positiove comments so I went with the Metra AWSC. Going to pick it up from Ogdensburg next week.

As for the resistor -- I was looking for 1450 ohm and wasn't sure which to get. They had different W ratings. I ended up getting 10W. Is that the right one?

I usually just use a to220 packaged 5v regulator (for example, a 7805) as I have boxes of them laying around.

Hey, I'm trying to install the resistor, but not sure which wire to attach it to. Which is the amp power wire?

[Edit:] Nevermind, found it. Blue/white (vehicle) -> resistor 1050 ohm -> Blue/white (stereo).

[Edit:] Actually ended up not working, still had the thump when I turned car on. Had to take it all apart again. Problem was the amp harness had two blue-white cables, and for some reason, I only had one hooked up to the resistor-stereo. So this time I took both blue-white cables that lead from the harness, twisted them together, and then connected through resistor to stereo. I also had two black-white amp grounds I didn't hook up to anything; twisted those together and connected them to the other vehicle harness, which had an used black-white cable. Now when I turn vehicle on, there's no more thump.

Took me forever to figure it all out. Too many cables.
