Just imagine what the number one would do. Durbins comments are proof positive they Liberals provide aid and motivation to the terrorist that threaten the safety and security of every American Foriegn and domestic.

Further Durbin equated the condition at Gitmo to the nazi death camps thatmillions suffered and died in under the evil hand of Hitler. Our pseudo-patriot, Sen Durbin, statement was featured on Al Jeezera, clearly used as motivational material for the terrorist.

You have heard me say it several times here and now the 2nd in command in the Liberal camp proved it. Liberals are terrorist supporters you provide aid to thier terror campaigns that take place and every corner of this globe.

Way to go Durbin!

WASHINGTON (AP) - The White House and Senate Republicans on Thursday assailed a Democrat for comparing American interrogators at Guantanamo Bay to Nazis, Soviet gulags and Khmer Rouge leader Pol Pot.

It is "beyond belief" that Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin would compare the treatment of dangerous enemy combatants at Guantanamo Bay to the death of millions of innocent people by oppressive governments, White House spokesman Scott McClellan said.

"I think the senator's remarks are reprehensible. It's a real disservice to our men and women in uniform who adhere to high standards and uphold our values and our laws," he said.

Sen. John Warner, R-Va., criticized Durbin for spouting "loose comments" and comparisons that "have no basis of fact or history." Durbin's remarks in a speech Tuesday in the Senate were "a most egregious misjudgment," Warner said.

Defending himself, the Senate's No. 2 Democrat said Thursday it was "just plain wrong" to say he was diminishing past horrors.

He said he was comparing interrogation techniques that the FBI report said were used at Guantanamo with those in foreign detainee camps.

"This is the type of thing you would expect from a repressive regime. This is not the type of thing you would expect from the United States," Durbin said.

Durbin made the comparison after reading an FBI agent's report describing detainees at the Naval base in Guantanamo Bay as being chained to the floor without food or water in extreme temperatures.

"If I read this to you and did not tell you that it was an FBI agent describing what Americans had done to prisoners in their control, you would most certainly believe this must have been done by Nazis, Soviets in their gulags, or some mad regime - Pol Pot or others - that had no concern for human beings," Durbin said Tuesday.

Sens. Mel Martinez, R-Fla., and Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., pointing out that millions of people died in the camps that Durbin cited, while no one has died at Guantanamo.

Human-rights groups and other congressional Democrats have accused the Bush administration of unjustly detaining suspects at Guantanamo. Amnesty International recently called the prison "the gulag of our time." Some lawmakers - including at least one Republican - have questioned whether it should remain open.

Been there seen that. JTF-GTMO Hooah... These idiotic extreme lefties like to talk about something they have little or no clue about. Their remarks are baseless and contrived in order to appeal to their desire that their own country be the ultimate bad guy. To assuade that American troops are no different than those of the Third Reich is to preach the ignorance of a sector of america whose only reason for existence is the hatred of a country and way of life that has provided them with the comfortable blanket of freedom they reside under.

I just wish this was something that was said in a private forum where my respose could be laughter. However this...Dick...chose to slap a flag on his chest and spout his perceptions so that the whole world could see. His actions have given another American face for the followers of evil to cling to. This bastard...I hope he sleeps well at night...and that the blood of the proud servicemen (not just American) that he helped to murder stains his silver tongue...

I have been to Gitmo several times and it is not a desirable destination for anyone not even our service members. Outside the fence the land is littered with land mines planted by castro, it is hot and the only shade you can find outside is under your hat.

The terriorst deserve to be where there are and hardly deserve the quality of care that we have extended so far. I would like to know how many of the kidnapped in Iraq got 3 squares, medical care religous texts.

The answer is none, they were forced to go on TV and beg for their lives, beaten, starved and then the majority got public beheadings and you don't hear one liberal detesting these actions.

Now that it is said it can't be taken back and you can damn well bet that the terrorist friendly TV network al jeezera is not going to air any retraction he is unlikely to make.

No one could have said it any better when you said
FreeFaller said:

The statements can only serve to enlist more terrorist not more defenders of freedom and democracy. It is pseudo-patriots like him that make it difficult to recruit.

I do not wish for any more bloodshed but he deserves to taste the blood of our fallen defenders, Iraqi citizens, and those who died a horrible death in Hitlers death camps. The taste should be in his mouth for all his remaining days on earth.

El...Yeah, Gitmo isn't all that great. But then again...I do enjoy hangin out on the little beach on the Leeward side. Chapman beach I think it is. The one with that HUGE 8 ft Iguana that I swear must eat Banana rats to stay alive.

Wow Chapman beach, forgot all about it. It has been since 1990 since I was last there. Beautiful view as far as the eye can see. I suprised to see a McDonalds there. Is it still there?

It is just unfortunate that we have so many uneducated and uniformed people in this country. All they will hear is how brave this guy was to stand up and make a point about Gitmo. Nobody in the media will acknowledge that this guy just served death warrants on several US military personnel as well as many innocent civilians that will be 'taken out' by fundamentalists incited by his remarks.

I keep seeing headline after headline about how 1 lame US Congressman from the Republican side has said the US should set a timeline for withdrawal. We wind up with one moron out of several hundred intelligent conservatives but the headline has to read something like 'republicans push for withdrawal from Iraq' or something like that. It is all intended to make Bush look bad no matter what the cost.

And we have our liberal brethren on the board here waiting with baited breath for the least bit of bad news to pounce on. Impeachment this and that crap. You guys on the right need to understand that you need to get more involved and get the message out. Preaching to the choir ain't gonna do it. We need to take control of some of the newspapers and TV outlets and get the truth out. Otherwise, half the mind-numbed robots walking around are going to go to the polls and put a bitch like Hillary in office and then we'll really be F'd.
imho, of course.

I volunteered for the re-elect GWB campaign and intend to volunteer for the Republican on the next ticket. I never really wanted to be involved with politics but it became apparent to me about 14 months ago and up through the campaign. I intended to give every spare minute I can to ensuring that the security of this nation is ensured not for me but for my children, their children and their childrens children.

I recenet started attending events sponsored by my local republican representatives so I can learn and help with the processes of throwing Liberals out of office.

You are absolutely right Bryan, it will take more than people talking about it to their own choir to make sure this country is properly defended against Liberalism.

Hey about that headline after headline... You never seen anything of the sorts when Zell Miller spoke out against the libs. I can't believe how long I ate the bait and hook of the main stream medias BS, the day I realized I had been duped all this time was an awakening like none other.

I have been to many events. Thanks for getting involved. It takes alot of guts to get in the face of a frothing liberal. Aside for the spit that inevitably lands on your person while they are raging, one has to stay on message time and again to get the point across.

I can tell you this much. There are way more people seeing the light of conservatism and moving in our direction than there are people fed up with what the conservatives are doing and jumping ship. People are moving in the right direction, despite the bias and best efforts from the left.

1/3 of GWB's votes in 2004 came from registered democrats and independants.... pretty obvious why... democrats lost the long standing power they had in the house and senate and abandoned objectivity for hate, lies, and ignorance. Now that they've lost it, they're foaming at the mouths and will suffer a long painful extinction if they don't wake up and think.

Pummeled MP sues Pentagon
Soldier was impersonating unruly Guantanamo detainee in training

David Zucchino, Los Angeles Times

Saturday, June 18, 2005

A U.S. military policeman who was beaten by fellow MPs during a botched training drill at the Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, prison for detainees has sued the Pentagon for $15 million, alleging that the incident violated his constitutional rights.

Spec. Sean Baker, 38, was assaulted in January 2003 after he volunteered to wear an orange jumpsuit and portray an uncooperative detainee. Baker said the MPs, who were told that he was an unruly detainee who had assaulted an American sergeant, inflicted a beating that resulted in a traumatic brain injury.

Baker, a Persian Gulf War veteran who re-enlisted after the Sept. 11 terror attacks, was medically retired in April 2004. He said the assault had left him with seizures, blackouts, headaches, insomnia and psychological problems.

In the lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Lexington, Ky., Baker demanded reinstatement in the Army in a position that would accommodate his medical disability. He said the Army put him on medical retirement against his wishes.

"Somebody has to step up to serve, and I still want to serve," Baker said Friday in a telephone interview from his home in Georgetown, Ky.

A Pentagon spokeswoman declined to comment, saying she had not seen the lawsuit and could not discuss pending litigation.

The Pentagon first said that Baker's hospitalization after the training incident was not related to the beating. Later, officials conceded that he had been treated for injuries suffered when a five-man MP "internal reaction force" choked him, slammed his head several times against a concrete floor and sprayed him with pepper gas.

Baker said he had put on the jumpsuit and squeezed under a prison bunk after being told by a lieutenant that he would be portraying an unruly detainee. He said he was assured that MPs conducting the "extraction drill" knew it was a training exercise and that Baker was an American soldier.

As he was being choked and beaten, Baker said, he screamed a code word, "red," and shouted: "I'm a U.S. soldier! I'm a U.S. soldier!" The beating continued, he said, until the jumpsuit was yanked down during the struggle, revealing his military uniform.

No one has been disciplined or punished for the assault, said Baker's attorney, T. Bruce Simpson Jr. Simpson said the Army's Criminal Investigation Division told him last month that it had completed an investigation and had referred it to the Army's legal section for review. A CID spokesman did not respond to a request for comment Friday.

Baker receives $2,350 a month in military disability benefits, plus $1, 000 a month in Social Security, Simpson said.

Separately Friday, the Pentagon announced that a subsidiary of Houston- based Halliburton had been awarded $30 million to build an improved 220-bed prison at Guantanamo.

Kellogg Brown and Root Services Inc. of Arlington, Va., is to build a two- story prison that includes day rooms, exercise areas, medical bays, air conditioning and a security control room, according to the Pentagon. It is to be completed by July 2006.

Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., issued a statement criticizing the deal, calling Halliburton the "scandal-plagued former employer of Vice President (Dick) Cheney." Lautenberg has sought hearings into the contracts awarded to Halliburton for work in Iraq.

You people need to wake up and smell the coffee! Here's a case of abuse of one of our own people. The US was always seen as a leader in human rights, we're losing that regard because this administration is initiating or allowing this kind of treatment of detainees. I'ts not right!!

You need to wake up. We are prosecuting a war against people who want to kill millions of us if they get the chance. We can ill afford left wing extremists that would be more than happy to offer us up as bait.

Supposedly this guy got the snot beat out of him and still came back for more. Still wants to serve our country. What does that say?

He was portraying a detainee who had assaulted a US officer. Even this guy understood that it was this type of exercise that was necessary to 'educate' the detainees at Gitmo that they had better not step out of line for any reason or they would suffer severe consequences. This guy is a stud to have served and is still willing to serve our country. God Bless This Army Specialist.

Interesting......... by my calculations that's $136K+ / "bed". Must be some damn nice accomodations. Oh, RIGHT, this is awarded to Hallucinaburton! We all know how accountable those guys are. Was this a competitive bid???

You'll notice that no one really argued with you guys on what Durbin said.

Durbin apologizes for Gitmo remarks

No. 2 Democrat says he intended no disrespect to U.S. troops

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The Senate's No. 2 Democrat apologized Thursday for remarks comparing the treatment of detainees at the Guantanamo Bay prison camp to methods used by the Nazis, Soviets and other repressive regimes.

Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois said he "never intended any disrespect" to U.S. troops with his June 14 comments, for which the minority whip has endured a week of criticism from Republicans and some Democrats.

"In the end, I don't want anything in my public career to detract from my love for this country, my respect for those who serve it, and this great Senate," Durbin said in an emotional statement on the Senate floor.

"I offer my apologies to those that were offended by my words."

Human rights groups and the Red Cross have criticized the treatment of prisoners at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, a U.S. Navy base where prisoners from the war on terrorism have been held since early 2002. The facility currently houses about 520 prisoners. (Full story)

In the June 14 floor speech, Durbin read from an FBI agent's account of prisoners at Guantanamo Bay being shackled to the floor without food or water in extreme temperatures for up to 24 hours at a stretch.

Prisoners in those conditions sometimes urinated or defecated on themselves, the agent reported.

"If I read this to you and did not tell you that it was an FBI agent describing what Americans had done to prisoners in their control, you would most certainly believe this must have been done by Nazis, Soviets in their gulags or some mad regime -- Pol Pot or others -- that had no concern for human beings," Durbin said.

The White House, which insists prisoners at Guantanamo Bay are treated in accordance with the Geneva Conventions, called Durbin's remarks "reprehensible." (Full story)

Republicans quickly called for Durbin to apologize -- a call he rejected Friday, saying his statement was "misused and misunderstood." (Full story)

But Durbin said Tuesday he had erred by invoking the specter of the Holocaust, which he called "the greatest moral tragedy of our time."

"Nothing should ever be said to demean or diminish that moral tragedy," Durbin said. "I'm also sorry if anything I said, in any way, cast a negative light on our fine men and women in the military."

He said he would "continue to speak out on the issues that I think are important to the people of Illinois and to the nation."

Sen. John McCain -- who was a prisoner of war for more than five years during the Vietnam War -- said Sunday that Durbin should apologize. (Full story)

But the Arizona Republican also said reports of controversial interrogation techniques and allegations of abuse could endanger American POWs in a future conflict.

Dems Say Rove Should Apologize or Resign

Democrats Say Rove Should Apologize or Resign After His Statements on Aftermath of Sept. 11 Attacks

By JIM ABRAMS Associated Press Writer
The Associated Press

WASHINGTON Jun 23, 2005 — White House adviser Karl Rove should either apologize or resign for saying liberals responded to the Sept. 11 terrorist strikes by wanting to "prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers," Democrats said Thursday.

Adding to the rancor, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., suggested that Republican charges that Democrats were undermining the war on terror with their criticism of administration policies amounted to an act of desperation.

"The president wanted to go to Iraq in the worst possible way and he did," Pelosi said. "The president is on the ropes."

Bush's chief political adviser, Rove said in a speech Wednesday that "liberals saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers." Conservatives, he told the New York state Conservative Party just a few miles north of Ground Zero, "saw the savagery of 9/11 and the attacks and prepared for war."

Rove said the Democratic Party made the mistake of calling for "moderation and restraint" after the terrorist attacks.

Democrats were quick to respond and in growing numbers.

"Karl Rove should immediately and fully apologize for his remarks or he should resign," Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said in a statement. "I hope the president will join me in repudiating these remarks."

Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean called on Bush to "show some leadership and unequivocally repudiate Rove's divisive and damaging political rhetoric."

The White House defended Rove's remarks and accused Democrats of engaging in partisan attacks. Rove, said spokesman Scott McClellan, "was talking about the different philosophies and our different approaches when it comes to winning the war on terrorism."

During a Senate hearing on Iraq in which Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld and other military leaders testified, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., read Rove's statement and urged them to reject the remarks.

"I would hope that you and other members of the administration would immediately repudiate such an insulting comment from a high-ranking official in the president's inner circle," Clinton said.

Earlier in the day, Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., said New York has had unity since Sept. 11. "To inject politics into this and to defame a large number of people" is outrageous, he said. "It's not what New York and America is all about."

Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., said nearly 3,000 Americans died on Sept. 11 and "we should not dishonor their memory by using that tragic day for political trash talk."

Three days after the terrorist attacks, the Senate voted 98-0 and the House voted 420-1 for a resolution authorizing Bush to use "all necessary and appropriate force" against those responsible for the terrorism. After the votes, Bush said in a statement: "I am gratified that the Congress has united so powerfully by taking this action. It sends a clear message our people are together, and we will prevail."

During the 2004 campaign, Bush dismissed the notion of negotiating with terrorists and said, "You can't sit back and hope that somehow therapy will work and they will change their ways."

On Wednesday, Rove also denounced Sen. Dick Durbin's comments comparing interrogation at the Guantanamo Bay prison camp to the methods of Nazis and other repressive regimes. He said the statements have been broadcast throughout the Middle East, putting U.S. troops in greater danger. The Illinois Democrat has since apologized for the remarks.

"No more needs to be said about the motives of liberals," Rove said.

Seven House Republicans also wrote Pelosi saying they were shocked by a statement in which she said the war in Afghanistan was over. "Messages like yours could demoralize our troops and undermine our efforts to fight terrorism in Afghanistan and around the world," they wrote.

Pelosi, who made the comment at a news conference where Democrats called for an investigation into detainee abuses at Guantanamo Bay, said Thursday that she was referring to the campaign to drive the Taliban from power in 2001. Fighting continues, she said, because the administration decided to divert its attention from Afghanistan to the war in Iraq.

Hahaha. Boy Karl did you point out the obvious. Dems will be frothing at the mouth over this one for sure. No need to apologize for anything Karl. The truth hurts. Offer therapy and prepare indictments. EXACTLY their initial reaction. I remember all the 'we have to be measured in our response' garbage talk. Bush came out and said we need to 'kick some ass' and then they said, well maybe. This kind of stuff makes it worth getting up in the morning.

Also... "No more needs to be said about the motives of liberals," Rove said.

If I didn't know better, I'd say I wrote that line. Seems like I might be perfect for this job someday. Spanking libs is my hobby.

Your usual :bsflag:

How, then, can you explain THIS??

Three days after the terrorist attacks, the Senate voted 98-0 and the House voted 420-1 for a resolution authorizing Bush to use "all necessary and appropriate force" against those responsible for the terrorism.

The dems were right there w/ the repugs. Both you and Rove are full of it.

*owned*

Yes but the modern day liberals don't have the stomach for the type of long drawn out conflict the GWOT has turned into. They were all about it until suddenly somebody said "This may take some time and alot of work"...

Jeez...what happened to good old fasioned a$$ kickers like FDR...

JohnnyBz00LS said:

I don't have time now but I'll come up with all the quips and knashing of teeth that went on right before and after the vote.

I will admit that many Dems were confused right before the vote. But being 'on the record' with a vote in the affirmative was safer politically at that moment. Most turned around and ran in front of the camera to expose their true feelings.

And like FreeFaller said, once it got past the rhetoric to actually doing something, you know, the put up or shut up phase, they ran with their tails between their legs. But of course, had they had the Presidency, they would have lobbed a few missiles over and then gone out 'cocktailing' to celebrate.

The differences b/t what "Dick" said and what Karl Rove said are:
1. What Rove said doesn't endanger servicemen's lives and give aid and comfort to our enemies.
2. What Rove said was not only accurate, but prophetic.
3. What Dick Durbin said was praised by Al Jazeerah, the terrorist tv and radio network. What more proof do you need?

Where are the liberals now? Screaming and crying in opposition to the war on terror. They sure changed their minds quickly. Proves that they only do what is politically expedient, whether it's right or not.

Like him or not, Bush has guts. He prosecutes this war on terror b/c he knows it is right, no matter how much the media and libs shriek.

:Bang

WHY can't you RWWs keep FOCUSED? You keep justifying the Iraq war w/ 9/11, while ignoring the REAL war on terror and finding / killing those RESPONSIBLE for the 9/11 and many prior terrorist attacks on the US, the Taliban, AlQuida and Osama Bin Ladin!! Don't forget that most of the 9/11 terrorist were SAUDIs!! So WHY have we tip-toed around Saudi Arabia? Simple, OIL. Oh yeah, the Saudis also own a significant chunk of the US. Can't piss them off, they might call in our debts to them.

I don't think ONE liberal / democrat in this entire country has an issue w/ the "War On Terror" (i.e.: finding OBL and dismantling his organization). THAT is entirely justified by 9/11. BUT BUSH DID NOT FINISH THE JOB THERE YET!!! What is rapidly becoming the majority of the people of the US are PISSED about is that INSTEAD of finishing the job of finding and prosecuting OBL, BuSh covertly diverted our attention, resources and soldier's lives to oust Saddam as a personal vandetta while making his oil industry buddies rich in the process. To add insult to injury, their poor planning on this Iraq war has resulted in this quagmire we are currently in.

Had BuSh finished hunting down those responsible for 9/11 FIRST before going into Iraq, no one would be pissed.

Had BuSh & co. properly planned for the aftermath in Iraq, no one would be pissed.

BUT HE DID NEITHER.

You RWWs keep feeding yourselves the same :bsflag: it eventually starts tasting good. Meanwhile the rest of the majority of us US citizens will pass, thanks.

From Fox News:

Clinton, who was speaking during the inaugural Aspen Ideas Festival, organized by the Aspen Institute nonpartisan think tank, didn't mention the presidential election in 2008.

She said the United States should remain in Iraq until peace can be maintained by the Iraqi people, saying the mission was part of the "long struggle against terrorism" by the U.S.

"The threat of terrorism is as close as our daily commute," said Clinton, adding that people around the world admired the "famous resilience" of the British in the wake of last week's terrorist attacks.

So here's the libbies' next presidential candidate saying that Iraq is part of the GWOT... Looks like someone just got *owned*

:bowrofl:

Straight from the horses mouth too.

Of course we all know she doesn't mean it. She just wants to get elected and if she shared the same opinions as the 3% of wackos on the left, she knows she wouldn't stand a snowballs chance in hell. Well, she doesn't anyway but that would be a whole other thread.

Too bad we don't have a foot-in-the-mouth smiley for Johnny.
