hello just want to say hi first off new to this site. i just recently bought this car for 500 bucks but the guy said he was told that the motor jumped time. so i have a few questions before i assume that he was told correctly. i just got the car home pulled the intake off and found cracked pcv hose by intake, all plugs looked terrible may be original motorcraft plugs, also pulled the cops and both back plugs were sitting in oil. so i looked at my cam gears and they are on the same mark as the paint on the chain but still could of slipped on the crank gear though. when i picked it i started it and it hesitated at first but also has been sitting awhile then it calmed down and had a loud ticking/knock noise and ran rough. so i also checked my timing chains passenger side it nice and tight but the driver side has some slack. should i just replace the valve gaskets, plugs, cops, andpcv hose and try and see if it runs better but i also want to make sure that it did not jump time while i have the valve covers off. how would i be able to tell if it jumped by not pullling everything off front of motor. any insight would be helpful. also codes i pulled before tearing down were c1805,u1262,p1000,p1565.

I think it would be the first V6 that I've heard of that jumped time, if it really did.
It looks like verifying/setting the valve timing on the V6 is way more complicated than on the V8. I think the front engine cover has to come off. You're going to need the shop manual to check this.

when you were investigating the timing chains, how much slack was there on the driver side? did you check the secondary timing chain tensioners? a little slack is enough to through off the bank. timing needs to be precise. when the secondary tensioners go, the typically crack, and loose stamina as they are spring loaded. This isn't a very hard job to replace it. I did this with my 2000 ls. if this is the case, I suggest not buying the plastic factory replacements.. the guys here pointed out you could buy metal tensioner replacements and they are actually cheaper then going to ford! hope this helps

LSE8, i think you're referring to the v8. The engine in question is a v6

ya shop manual ordered and on its way, there is a noticeable amount of slack compared to the other side and i dont think the v6 has secondary tensioners.

Yes, dual overhead cam (four cams total).
No secondaries, one chain per side driving both cams on each side.

hopefully the manual will help and i can check it without oulling whole front of motor off
