I am interested in installing a double DIN navigation unit and back-up camera in my 2000 LS. I have the non Alpine system with 4 speakers, in-dash casette, and CD changer in the glovebox.

What parts do I need for the install? Is Metra or Scosche bezel the way to go? What harness part number(s) do I need? What is the best way to wire back-up camera? Where is the best place to mount GPS antenna? How do I find the VSS? Any other recommendations?

TIA
Seymour

One more question. In the photos, the Metra bezel does not show side mounting supports for the head unit, and the Scosche does. How do you properly mount the Nav unit?

with the metra you need to slightly modify the factory bracket to mount the radio and hold the dash kit (drill new screw holes and file a couple of nubs down)

metra wire harness 70-5519

i mounted the GPS antenna under the plastic panel that runs up against the windshield (the panel that has the defroster vents in it)

not sure about VSS in a 1st gen

as for the back up camera, get power from the acc wire at the radio and ground it any where, I would ground it as soon as you get to the body from the trunk lid. (assuming that you mount the camera on the license plate of some where on the trunk lid) and then you will need to run a wire from the nav unit to the reverse wire (i used a wire from the reverse lights and tapped into the harness right where it come off of the trunk lid hinge and on to the body )

Thanks for the info. So the Metra bezel is the way to go? Do you guys recommend the Pioneer ND-BC2 rear camera to go with the AVIC? It says it projects a mirror image. I am assuming using all Pioneer stuff will result in the back up camera image dispaly orientation just like factory OEM's. Not mirror image?

The factory rear view displays that I have seen are mirror image. I think that works better and is less confusing that a non-mirror image would be.

Mirrored - Stuff on the left side of the screen is on the left side of your car.

Non-mirrored - Stuff on the left side of the screen is on the right side of your car.
