This forum has been awesome in helping me with my car The Craigslist Nightmare...SO this guy said the car was in great condition a few days later I could barely drive without it spuddering horribly and is still spuddering when I get to 45-50. ..I changed the spark plugs...it helped alittle...still overheating out of the degas bottle...changed the degas bottle...still overheating...went from hydraulic to electric fan...still overheating...so I replaced the thermostat housing and removed the thermostat...Found a hole in the lower radiator hose on the rubber not the plastic..can I replace the rubber and reuse the plastic..do I have to buy a new assembly...can I replace the plastic part with just a rubber part....I am doing the work myself so I'm trying to cut cost where I can please help Thanks:cool:

1. You must replace the whole hose assembly. The plastic may look good, but it's not. All of you cooling system plastic is failing. The upper radiator hose will be next. You can keep doing this one thing at a time and maybe kill your engine with all the overheats, or you can replace it all at once and be good for five to ten more years.

2. You need to put the thermostat back in. Removing it doesn't help 0.001% with your overheating problem. The thermostat is fully open long before you get the overheating stage. What you are doing now is sludging up you engine because it doesn't quickly hit the correct operating temperature. You're also reducing your mileage and power.

3. You need to replace all of your ignition coils (with Motorcraft). Your next big bill will be catalytic converter replacement if you don't. (Assuming that they aren't already too damaged.)

Thank you for your reply...so I will put thermostat back in as soon as I get the new radiator hose...I know that I must replace the hose but can it be a hose without the plastic part it doesn't have the oil coolers on it....I just don't see
what the purpose is of the plastic part...listening to a old buddy of mine he told me to remove the thermostat and I did like an idiot LOL  once I put the new thermostat housing on overheating on the car really slowed down...A guy told me he would charge me 400.00 bucks bc he had to push the engine back..NO WAY...I found a Kobalt 5/8-in Ratcheting Wrench from lowes and i did it myself..:cool:I've never driven it over 30 mins in one drive though but I will add the coils and the Cat to my list of buys for this car

No, you need the plastic section. It has mounting points to hold the hose out of the working parts.

yes replace all the cooling plastic parts and then do the coils and spark plugs. don't do the cats yet until you need them.

A guy told me he would charge me 400.00 bucks bc he had to push the engine back..

this is the first clue that the guy in question does not know a lot about cars... engines dont just push back, there is a lot of other stuff in the way. IF one was so UN-mechanically inclined as to not be able to change this part with the engine where it sits now, it would be much easier and faster to just remove the radiator instead to gain a little extra clearance (which I bet would also be over that persons head...)

thank god you were wise enough to get in there and get it done doing it yourself!

I won't do the CaT yet but I purchased it yesterday just in case...I did the coils yesterday and my spark plugs are maybe 3 months old so I left those alone..I also replaced all the plastic parts with new plastic parts.. haven't driven her yet...hopefully she is no longer spuddering...but we shall see

Mannn he is a idiot..I said to myself he would be able to get to it faster than me due to my schedule...When he quoted me the price I made time to put it on lol...it took alittle convincing to get the back screw out but it was easy breezy after that
