I'm going to document the project, goal is to bring this LS back to day 1 status (as close as realistically possible)

current mileage 56k and some change (odometer works when it wants)

known issues/parts to obtain:

hydraulic fan pump/pulley/sensor/hoses
abs sensors
lug nuts/studs (wheel has fallen off before while driving)
LH control arm
Headlights/tail lights
power steering pump sensor
clockspring
Front bumper/fog lights
center console
floor/trunk mats
driver mirror

hopefully finished by the end of the summer but we all know how that goes.

If its the lower control arm you're looking for, you would be better off finding a good condition used one. I had to buy the LH one and ford wanted almost 700 for it and no one else could even get a hold of one...

I bought mine from a local yard for 75 bucks and have had no issues, been on a year or so now.

You could buy the control arm from rock auto, though they don't have any lowers that I know of with the ball joint already pressed in.

You can get parts from rock auto, though I don't think that they have any lower control arms with the ball joints already pressed in. Depending on the brand I think you can get them for around $245 for a MOOG brand one.

lower control arms don't have the ball joint, it's in the knucle. And the moog ones are what i looked for but they were on "back-order" and not available now this was a year ago may have better luck now.

Pictures would be good. So we can see what you are starting with. Watch and see your progress. Nothing like good documentation for a rstore job like this.:)

that's a pretty short list for the LS, I've already done so much. Maybe the build quality improved with the 06 but the gen1 ls is a headache car. This car sat idle more then it was on the road due to all the headaches. Thankful I never sold it though ;)

Well when i bought it nothing had been changed yet.

How many miles you got? give it some time lol. I've already done the usual stuff, coils, window regulators and new suspension

"Short list".:p In 9 years, I have had the typical issues. Two coils and a valve cover leak. All fixed by warranty. Yours must be unlucky.

oh I've had all the original coils/regulators replaced back in 02/03 when it was still under warranty, but this was with the same suck parts so I've done that myself with the updated parts.

The hydraulic fan system was my fault, replaced the rack and figured why not do the power steering pump. too bad I put a power steering pump where the fan pump should be. I was going to convert to electric but I've decided to stay stock.

And yes I've beat this car like I do every car I own, and wrecked the car twice.

If you really love this car, you have to come to terms that it was born a headache machine.

If you really love this car, you have to come to terms that it was born a headache machine.

Especially if you keep wrecking it. They never are the same afterward.... We have over 170K miles on our original 2000 V6. Yes, parts have worn out and have had to be replaced. That's normal. Any machine wears out, especially when abused.

This car was wrecked with the temp tag still in the window, after being professionally repaired the car was "the same" up to 56k! if it wasn't I wouldn't still have it today. Car sat for years while I drove others!

The powertrain on these cars is the best thing about them, I'm sure I'll get this motor to 200k myself.

LS4me, take my cbr 954 for ride, 2002 and severely abused for every mile @16k. all original parts outside brakes/tires ;) Don't get defensive I'm on your team pal, I love the car too but it is what it is.

Headed for 148K on my '02. I have had no need for any of the things you listed.

Still waiting on fan parts.

While waiting and with the bumper cover/headlights off I unwrapped the front harness that surrounds the front end. I found several curved areas under the fenders and near the headlight jumper that we're severely corroded, A lot was wrong electrically but I'm surprised anything worked given the state of this harness.

The harness clean up took care of the engine sensor data error's, the brake lights staying on and the odometer displaying dashes opposed to the actual mileage.

I also found that the headlights we're acting up, one bright worked and one low, on both sides and oppositely, I thought I might have botched the headlight jumper connector repair but it turned out to be an ssp2 relay in the trunk that was bad, go figure.

repairs left to complete before paint:

abs sensors
sway bar bushings (again)
cats
fix exhaust leak/possibly replace all together
leaky sunroof
replace tail light housings
p/s pump
hydro fan pump
belts
clock spring
A/C recharge if I ever find the port
replace wheel well's
replace bottom side engine cover

hopefully these parts arrive soon.

replaced all abs sensors, still getting code for rear left.. guess I need to get deeper under and check for frays somewhere.

got the energy susp sway bushings delivered and the old's off the car, it appears the dealer (in 03) just cut a slice down the middle of each bushing to get them on the bar opposed to taking the bar out? Does everyone do it this way I wonder..

Got a hydro fan pump (huge thanks to HALFGIG) as well as new ps pump, took me a few rounds to get the old's out but they're history.

picked up a shiney new 200amp alternator on ebay, that was fun to take out as well.

basically have everything I need to go to war except the 2 prong connector from the harness to the hydro pump (lost) and some tail light housings.

I'm almost certain more problems will reveal themselves once I get it started and that;s half of this battle lol.

I understand you are wanting to keep your cooling system stock, but for the price and reliability, the electric fan conversion makes more sense IMO. I did both of mine for less than $300. And removing the hydraulic pump gains you 50 RWHP...lol j/k

Do they not have any decent junkyards up where you are at? I'd be raiding them for your missing parts.

the junkyards in my area never have anything I need.

Hite, if I didn't get a replacement pump so cheap from a lvc member I probably would have went electric as well. As far as reliability goes, are these pumps known to go bad? I haven't heard much about them, and mine would have been fine if I left it alone.
