Hi there - can anyone give me a definitive answetr on this question? Will a 2002 6disc in dash changer work/swap out in a 2001 lincoln lS?

My Lincoln has the glove box changer and tape deck, althoug hthere was a 6disc in dash option.. the changer from the 2002 explorer looks the same however part numbers are different.. I can't seem to get a solid answer via google..

Part number of the 2002 explorer radio is 3l2t-18c815-fa

Thoughts??? It's only 10 bucks! My glove box changer died along time ago so I've been using a stupid tape adapter to hook up my phone. thanks!

I was planning on this swap before, from 2002 mercury mountaineer/explorer to 2002 lincoln ls. They are identical when you remove the faceplate but I can't guarantee that they will work correctly because I just decided to purchase a 2-DIN stereo for my LS instead (with bluetooth, don't like the wires) The adapters that I have for both HU are the same so I am 99% confident that they are swappable. If you really want to retain the look (and remote steering functionality) of the stock you could just throw away the cd changer in the glove box and put an isimple device for your iphone or android phone. I did this with my Lincoln Continental and works good (except for the wire to the phone) Only spent around $90 at that time. I don't like to put a single DIN HU to the Continental (the space looks like it will accept a 2-DIN but isn't)

I still consider Fords CD changer a POS, that's why I didn't do the swap.

So I ended up buying it before I saw your comments and yes, i would agree that although it appears the plugs are the same as is the housing that the actual HU is built in... but yes the Faceplate is different...

I wonder, could I get just the face plate off a broken LS 6 disc changer????

.... yes I realize this seems like a lot of work, however I've already spent the $10 and I these types of projects are fun.. anyone out there have a broken 6 disc changer, they might want to give (or part with for cheap) me the face plate off of???

I suspect that you'll lose the retained power feature.

yep, most of the fords from that time frame, the RAP feature was handled by the cars electronics (the ACC wire was kept powered) but the LSs radio gets it signal when to turn off from the data bus

it should also be noted that if you have the center console speakers, they will probably also not work right, no explorer ever came with small DSP speakers, only a factory sub option, so if you have those, that radio will probably only send bass to them, which will probably blow them put pretty fast.

if you could wait I could ship you the faceplate of my LS, going to be next week though. I have it disassembled and it's secured by 4 torx screws (2 on top and 2 below) I didn't remove the circuit board, you need to swap the circuit board with the explorers. Only the "COMP" is different in terms of label (DSP on the explorer). You could just pay me back the shipping cost.
