2002 Lincoln LS interior Driver Door Handle

Can anyone give me some help. I have an 02 LS and this morning the interior driver door handle wouldn't open the door. I had to roll down the window and use the outside handle. Any idea how to fix? Is it a cable or a rod?
 
cable. just pull the plastic interior off door to expose door handle and components, then evaluate.
 
Thanks, guys I'll check it out but it probably won't be until the weekend.
 
I have replaced this on both of my LS's and two friends' LS's and all of them needed new handles. The plastic tab that holds the cable broke. yours may be different but this is my experience
 
I had a chance to take the door panel off today and found that the inside door handle is broken. Does anyone know where I can get one? Is it going to be hard to replace? Thanks for all the help I really appreciate it!

Dealer. You'll need to drill out the rivets and either re-rivet in the new handle (you'll need one of these:
images
and they are EXPENSIVE!) or you can bolt in the new handle.
 
LS4ME I thought it looked like it bolted in from the back? Is the whole assembly (handle and lock mechanism) bolted from the back? Are you referring to just the handle its self?

Yes, the handle assembly. The part that attaches to the cable; #6 in the diagram.
 
1/4"x 3/4" long bolts with teflon nuts work great to mount the new handle. Drilling the old rivets out is the hardest part of this job, and even that isnt hard.
 
I bolted mine back on, broke where cable attached, cheap crap! Replaced everything to door latch. Had friend who worked @ Ford dealer put in new latch assembly. My fat hands couldn't get in around door lock etc. After market cable was about 1/8 to 1/4 in. to long used stainless steel wire to tie wrap back a little. Working good for 7 months now. Have a little rattle in drivers window now, when closing, anyone got any suggestions? Thanks!

I have the same issue but i cant find any of the parts on the web. i know that its the crappy plastic piece that holds the cable. can any one help me with a link?
