2002 lincoln ls v8 hesitates and shudders when accelerating but no codes on dash

To start off I currently have 163k miles. So far I have changed my valve cover gaskets within the last year or two . I've replaced all 8 spark plugs, all coil pack boots, and 4 of the coil packs within the last year and a half. I've done a lot of other work and put many hours into this car the last few years I've owned it, so I'm listing what I believe is pertaining to my issue.
The past few weeks I have been noticing upon accelerating that my car hesitates and even feels like it's shuttering. This condition has been on and off, but seems to be getting more persistent. I have not had any dash lights yet, so I'm wondering where I should start.. I pulled my coil pack covers last night and replaced a broken pigtail on one of the coils. I checked my spark plugs and they look great, no oil in the spark plug wells. I did notice on my drivers side that a small amount of oil seems to be seaping or leaking from the base of the filler spout, it does not seem to be leaking into the coil cover though. I did notice some moisture in the spark plug wells on my drivers side as well, so I went ahead and ordered a new coil cover because mine is a bit warped with a bad seal. At this time I believe it could be a combination of moisture and a coil pack but I'm not sure because there are no codes. If anyone has experienced these symptoms or knows how I should address my issue it would be appreciated.
 
Covered hundreds of times on here, unless you are the first exception...

Replace the broken connector.
Replace all coils (they are Coil-On-Plug, not coil packs) at the same time with OEM.
Replace all spark plugs at the same time as the COPs. Verify that the plug gaps are set at 1.0mm, no larger.
Replace the foam seal around the passenger side wiper shaft.
 
Ok man, I'm not on here asking for help to be corrected on my terminology!
I've read many other posts about coil issues, and couldn't find any similar involving hesitation while accelerating with no stored codes. So instead of searching for hours I made a post. If you have an issue with that then don't respond to my post.
 
Don't get offended, but joegr is the kind of guy who gives great advice and knows his stuff. He still gave you advice on your problem despite having an "issue" with your post. Honestly he could have just told you to search for it and left it at that without giving you advice at all.

new guy has the most common problems known to the LS driving man.

new guy gets told exactly what he needs to do to start to resolve his issue along with a little education as so he doesn't sound ignorant while talking to people extremely knowledgeable with the subject matter.

then new guy gets all butt hurt about the delivery of the info that he came on here seeking, runs off at the mouth and tells probably the most useful resources on just about anything LS based to go kick rocks...



bravo dude, bravo... hopefully you get your head out of your ass before you insult all of the people who can actually provide you with assistance. lord knows the last thing you want when trying to seek help is for the answers coming from the least knowledgeable people.
 
I'm not offended just looking for a strightforward answer. I'm close friends with two master techs, one of them worked with jaguar for 20 years.. I've been getting different opinions on my problem so thought I'dreach out to people on here.. as far as being new I've replaced just about everything that could go wrong on a first Gen ls show some respect.
 
As far as insults go 1 loud ls considering your a senior LVC member I wouldn't expect such rude ass remarks. Frankly I don't care and as far as I'm concerned whoever shoved that stick in your ass this morning should be the one you should bitch to. Don't assume that you know everything, that my friend is ignorant as hell.
To be honest I am fully aware of having to replace coils, plugs, and gapping them coreectly. Wasn't sure if my instance was fuel or injector related..
 
Wow.... Only four posts and already headed to alienation!!

Maybe you should just ask your Master Techs what the difference is between a coil-pack and coil-on-plug....... There is a MAJOR difference.

Man what is with some of you people? I didnt come on here looking to push any of you off your high horse. Just because I don't live on this **** and have auto spell on my ****ing cell phone doesn't mean I do not know what I'm talking about. Your all acting like a bunch of ****s because I said coil pack big deal. Get over it and either help me out like I would do for you or get bent.
 
Obviously, you must not understand what auto correct is on a cell phone, or use one for that matter. I came here looking for some honest responses, not to be corrected and then called on by some dumb ass who talks big on a forum. Some of you need to get off of your high horse. You don't like what I have to say then don't comment simple as that. I came to talk about cars and to maybe learn a few things if it's such a problem then Fck off.

OK. Let's look at this objectively. You said you have a shudder and a hesitation. You said you replaced gaskets, 8 plugs, 8 boots, and 4 coil packs.

Joe said these symptoms are nothing new, fix the connector, replace the coils, corrected coil packs to coil-on-plugs, replace plugs and gap them, and replace the foam.


Where does the hostility come from? Your terminology was wrong. There is no opinion on this, only facts. Joe corrected you bluntly. Some would say "straightforward" even, which is the type of answer you said you are looking for.

A coil (generally speaking) is a coil that serves all of your cylinders. My Mustang has 1 (V8).

A coil pack (strictly speaking) is one that serves multiple cylinders, but not all. A Taurus Vulcan has 3 (V6).

A coil-on-plug serves one cylinder. My LS has 8 (V8).

You said your car is hesitating and shuddering. Bucking, lugging, pulsing, lurching, chucking, hesitating and shuddering are all terms that mean relatively the same thing, especially with the LS during light acceleration. Does it happen at ~30% throttle, ~50mph, in 5th gear?

If you are so well-versed on LS misfire maintenance about VCGs, coils, and plugs, you would have replaced all 8 coils at the same time, or replaced the remaining 4 now before asking, or really, replaced all 8 coils and plugs before asking.

But you didn't. You asked a question, got an answer, and got upset with how straightforward it was.

We're not a hostile group. We can help you. We want you to know what's wrong with your car, how to fix it properly, and understand what things are called, which is part of understanding the problem. Whether your friends or parts stores interchange coils, coil packs, and coil-on-plugs, doesn't matter.

Additionally, the autocorrect claim is hard to believe. COPs (cops) and coil on plugs would not be autocorrected to coil packs, seeing as how all of them are in your phone's dictionary.

Let me know when you need help with your suspension and ask for "struts"...

very interesting train of thought here, but I do understand autocorrect, and over half of my post are from a phone or tablet. doesn't explain you using the wrong term over and over and over...
autocorrect will try to choose what word that if thinks you want to use when you misspell a word. using that as an excuse doesn't work for you here because if you used the right word "coil" it wouldn't try to change it by adding a whole other word to that existing word since "coil" wouldn't have been flagged as a misspelled word. I guess this would be assuming that you could handle spelling a simple four letter word correctly...





also kind of interesting that you distrust your own master mechanic friends so much that you would go off on the internet to seek advice from strangers instead of believing what a guy with 20 experience working with one of the most unreliable manufactures around

I would have to wonder... this site seems to be hit by a troll about once every week or three. Have any administrator-types checked IP addresses to see if these trolls might not be the same person? You all know who I mean, someone who makes a first post on a common LS issue, making terminology mistakes, then goes off half-cocked right off the bat?
 
while, I don't think this is one of those cases, it wouldn't be the first time somebody has done that. you can usually tell right away as those people that get banned in the first place are usually pretty easy to tell.

I want everyone to enjoy their LS and fix it properly..... But on the other hand, the lack of replacement parts means we could use more parts cars

If you have the room, buying every LS you see would eventually make you some money. Over in the Reatta world some guy bought like 20 of them and stored them (not new, out of salvage yards and whatnot), and now is about the only source for a lot of parts for the car. This is the problem with any low production car although the Reatta is lower production than most. Made 4 years, average 5000 units per year, about 4000 of them convertibles, over half of them have since been sent Coca Cola (horses get made into glue, cars get made into soda cans ;) ). They are down to remanufacturing old parts over there. The coming age of the 3D printer is about the only thing left for those diehards.
