Looking for some help with my latest problem. Driving my 2002 LS (V8) last night and it started running really rough. Seems that it only does this when it idles or when it gets up to speed and in 4th or OD. This morning the check engine light came on along with the running rough issue. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

It's probably coils. Why don't you get the codes read and then you'll have more info to go on.

had the codes read this morning. Guy told me it was the #4 cylinder but couldn't say what the cause was. I guess it just says #4 misfire.

Coil-On-Plugs typically go bad on this vehicle in the 80k-120k mileage range. Change the COPs and spark plugs at the same time.

In the future, you will get the best help here if you get the exact five character code(s) instead of what someone thinks they mean.

Anyway, if you read or searched these forums, you'd know that the best thing to do now is to replace all of the coils and all of the plugs. If you find oil in any of the plug wells, you'll need to replace the valve cover gaskets as well.

I dropped it off at a shop this morning. They want $900.00 to put in a coil and a new valve cover gasket. Is the Valve cover gasket that hard?

No, it's not, but that is well in line with common dealer rates.
If you can do it yourself, then you'd be better off to replace the VCGs, all coils, and all plugs. It would still be less than $900 in parts. However, it may take you all day.

i did the plugs about 15,000 miles ago so I bet they are ok...I really hate to put tons of money in this car as it has 190,000 on it. The plugs on the drivers side were a real pain, I can't imagine how hard the VCG would be.

Anytime you replace a coil, you have to replace the plug that it goes to. It doesn't matter if the plug was just put in five hundred miles ago.

Anytime one coil fails, the others probably will soon, if they aren't already marginal.
