2003+ dash in a 2001???

I searched for interior did no tget much. Can the trim be swapped, I hate the wood grain look. If i could find a wrecked 03+ ls with black leather and aluminum could i swap the parts? The complete interior? If not what is interchangeable?

does anyone have a gen 1 and 2 they can compare? I have seen 2nd gens but i have never had a chance to compare the interiors

im sure most panels and such would work, i know the clusters wont(at least thats what the dealer told me when i borught an 03 cluster in to install in my 01)

BUt youll have trouble wiht some electronic issues im sure

the instrument cluster swap would cause a tamper alarm to go off constantly which you would have to have the new cluster mated to the pcm by a dealer.
if its just the wood grain you dont like then you can get a dash kit. thats a pretty easy fix. you can get those on lskoncepts or a few other places in pretty much every style and color.

the cluster is a non-starter since the LS went to CAN protocols in 03 - will not work on the ODBII bus.

the console is also different - since the 03+ have an e-brake.

Even if it physically fits, the instrument cluster will not work; the 1st Gen and 2nd Gen LS PCMs use different protocols. 1st Gen LSes ('00-'02) use OBD-II; 2nd Gen LSes ('03-'06) use the CAN protocol. The computer modules, including the instrument cluster, are not interchangeable between generations.
Edit: It looks like he's asking about the interior parts, not the electronics. I don't know what trim pieces, if any, will fit, but I would be surprised if many do (the changes are subtle in some ways, but subtle changes can be the difference between fitting and not fitting). The electronics are pretty much a universal no-go, though.

What glanga said. If you don't like the wood just get a non-wood dash overlay off ebay. That would be much less expensive:

I actually looked at the aluminum kit from LSK but it doesnt totally get rid of the woodgrain. I think some of the pieces look good but not if there will be still be some woodgrain. The ebay kit posted doesnt have a ls kit installed to see/i would be scared to order that.

or just take it to a painter, and see what he can do(it doesnt hurt to ask).
