2003 lincoln ls v6 will not start

I'm here in an effort to see if anyone can help me to get an idea as to why my car will not start. Here's what's going on thus far... The engine will turn over and ive checked the coil packs and they're firing, however the car still will not start. The fuel pump is functioning as it should and the fuel filter is new and installed correctly. I recently purchased the car from a young lady and was informed that she came out one day and it wouldn't start, so they had a mechanic come out and he put a starter on it. Afterwards the car still would not start so when I looked at it i saw that he did not ground the starter, hence the reason for the car not doing anything when in an attempt to start it. Now I've grounded it properly but now it just turns over but no start. I will really appreciate any help that's provided, thanks in advance
 
How do you know the fuel pumps (there are two of them) are functioning correctly? Did you measure fuel pressure?
Did you try to start it with the MAF disconnected?
Have you tried spraying starting fluid in the throttle intake to see if it fires up?
Have you checked to see if the fuel injectors are activating?
Have you done a compression test?

You need spark, fuel, and compression (at a minimum to run). The first step is to figure our which one(s) you don't have.
 
I've used starting fluid and got a fireball, I don't have the necessary tools to check fuel pressure unfortunately but I disconnected the fuel line past the fuel filter and it was flowing there. Also I wasn't aware of the car having two fuel pumps. Where is the other one located?

It's in the left (driver's) side of the fuel tank. The tank has two sumps, so two pumps are needed. The 2nd pump (jet pump) is hydraulically powered by the first (electric) pump.

Your fireball suggest that the engine is out of time. A compression test should be your priority now.
 
Unplug the MAF and see if it starts and keeps running.
Remove (unscrew) the forward O2 sensors and see if it starts and keeps running.
 
Ok thank you, I will try those things first

I do not have a OBD II reader, but I will try to get my hands on one shortly to see if the ECM is throwing any codes, all I know is the message center is not listing any faults currently
 
Ok it runs with the mass air meter unplugged, does that mean my mass air meter is bad? car seems to have a bit of a miss as well, is that a bad coil(s)?

Can you advise me if I do need a mass air meter, would the one from my 2002 V8 Lincoln LS work? or do I need to get one
from a second generation V6 car?
 
if you're talking about a real miss, then yes, it is most likely a bad coil/s. however if you think it was missing when you bounced it off the rev limiter, then that is normal (at least in park, neutral, and reverse).
 
yea sorry not when it was bouncing off the rev limter, as RPM's increased sounded a bit rough and broken up, not sure if that was because mass air meter was unplugged or bad coils, so am I correct in assuming if my car only runs when the mass air meter is unplugged then I need a new meter?

It could also be that you have a big intake air leak. You need to rule that out first. Also, you can try cleaning the MAF sensor wire.

Thank you for your advice, I will try cleaning the MAF element first, I assume electrical contact cleaner would be the best thing to use?

I noticed the zip tube was not quite routed properly (sound deadening baffle was under the rad cover instead of on top, not sure if the air cleaner lid was hinged on properly, however
correcting those things did not make my MAF issue go away, if cleaning it doesn't help I guess I will go pirate the slot MAF off of the car I got the ECU and gage cluster from

Can you advise me what size spark plug socket I need to remove the plugs? neither one in my kit seemed to grab onto the plugs, looking through the valve cover I can not even see the hex flange just the ceramic portion of the plugs
 
5/8" works on the V8 plugs. You probably have a lot of gunk at the bottom of the wells that you need to clean out first. It's just was well that it's covering the base of the plugs. You wouldn't want to remove them and have all that stuff fall into the cylinder.

is 5/8" the size for the V6 as well? hoping I can wrap up the issues with the 2003 V6 car quickly thanks to your help and then I can mess around with my 02 V8 parts car and see what I can learn in terms of having the factory computer control a 4.6L DOHC out of a mark VIII
