hey all... quick question. posted here once before and helped greatly. living here in chicago it hasnt been warm out much but the days it does get warm i see steam rising from the hood. when i pop open the hood i cant tell where its coming from due to the wind blowing it around i can only see the general area. its coming from between the valve cover and degas bottle but seems like its down in there a bit. could it be a leak/crack on the degas bottle bottom side? also a faint smell of coolant can be smelled sometimes thats why i think it may be the degas bottle but wanted some advice on where to start my search if anyone has had this issue.searched some thread about this but none has been resolved so i figured id ask here. thanks in advance on where i should start my search. i just recently replaced the vavle cover gasket on that (oil in well) so i dont think that is a problem

if it smells like coolant and is coming from around the degas bottle, more than likely there
are small cracks in the bottle and maybe dripping down on the driver side exhaust.

thats where i'd start.

That's exactly what happened when I replaced my degas but my issue was a little different. The lower hose that connects to the bottom of the bottle wasn't clamped on tight enough. Coolant was spraying against the firewall and leaking down to onto the exhaust resulting in steam. It was hard to see exactly where the leak was coming from because there were no trails to be seen; with that being said don't rely on your eyes alone, start feeling for wet spots and looking for white residue.

sorry ive been busy lately and havent had a chance to reply. thanks for the advice and what to troubleshoot...what did you use to make sure it was clamped tight?havent seen how its connected because i havent taken it apart yet. can you get to the hose without removing the degas bottle? would hate to do the coolant drain procedure if i dont have to.

What are the odds here that you will be the exception (to cracked degas bottle after 12/13 years)?
