2004 Lincoln LS Steering Wheel suddenly loses alignment temporarily

... They had found q few loose bolts on the control arm that was letting it ...

This is why it's recommended to always use new hardware in critical areas, as in not reuse nyloc nuts and tighten to spec.

would like to keep the car overnight so that they could make sure that ...

Owner has a hot date and using your LS ? ... naah, they never do that, just kidding. Check mileage anyhow.

Putting this one in th "win" column.
Thanks everyone! I really appreciate all the help!

You're welcome! I'm really glad PEP Boys didn't get to hit you up for all that dough! Good going! don-ohio :)^)

So, I just experienced pretty much the same symptom today. I got out looked at it and didn't find anything obviously wrong. I drove it 1/4 mile to the nearest recommended shop. They put in on a lift and checked and didn't find anything either. The guy checking took a quick test drive. He came back a little shaken. When he parked it this time, one front wheel was pointed straight ahead. The other was not. There's no way I was going to drive it the 15 miles back home. I hope they figure it out tomorrow, and I hope it's just a loose bolt too.

Yeah, hope so Joe! Of course, you will probably have already guided them to the solution. don-ohio :)^)

I had this happen to me 4 months ago, which is why I suggested the control arm bolts. Proper torque is VERY important.

Well, I'm not quite as lucky. The control arms are shot (one failed). I guess I can't complain too much. It could have done it while I was in New Orleans the day before. Also, I have about 150K miles and my understanding is that the design intent was 100K mile life on those. I'll have to closely check my 04 now (180K+ miles). I've been expecting suspension issues would be heading my way due to the mileage and knowing that the dust boots are cracked/torn.

Yeah, I'm gonna check mine too. Sounds like prevention is the better part of valor here. don-ohio :)^)
