2004 Lincoln LS V8 Tranmission/Engine Problems

Hi. I need help to see if anyone else is having these problems with the Lincoln LS V8 2004. We just purchased the vehicle and are having headaches. This is not the first Lincoln we have had. Been driving the cars since 1990. THe trouble we are having is the transmission shifts rough and jerks while driving. Especially when merging into traffic...
The gear change take to long and the car starts to fish for where to go; The shifts occur to late. Going up hills, the car seems like its going to stop and then it jerks foward.The engine this past week decided not to start and now the car is shaking when we are at lights/stationary.
Does anyone know of any literature on these problems or are having similiar problems? When we bring the car into the dealership they cannot find anything wrong with the car b.c the computer doesn't have a code for it, therefore does not exist.

I've heard of something similiar on some 03s caused by an issue with the transmission solenoid packs or something of that nature... if its a preowned vehicle (like my 04) it might've been produced in mid to late 03 (like my 04) and might have a few similiar issues... just a guess though.
 
My suspicion is that there is some problem with the PCM (powertrain control module). This has been a well documented problem in earlier LS's. The PCM is re-flashed by the dealer that would eliminate the shifting and jerky transmission. I looked up for a TSB on this problem but couldn't find one. I'd suggest taking it to your dealer. Explain the situation and ask if a PCM re-flash is in order.
 
Well I just responded to his PM, but it sounds exaclty like the problem I had with my 2004 V6. It was the solenoid pack and not that it needed a reflash. I would rather imagine that is the problem. I told him to take it to another dealer b/c his dealer wouldn't help him since there were no codes coming up on the computer. Mine didn't have any either so I don't think codes are going to pop up for this solenoid problem.

Any one else agree he should take it to another dealer? And also, make sure not to take it to some other non-Lincoln dealer auto shop. Just some advice
 
I have had this same problem and have taken it into the dealer multiple times......No answer, "come in when the check engine light come on." anyone get a reply or now the answer to this problem....

See my post under transmission recall. According to the mechanic that worked on my car, the additive is supposed to address the solenoid pack problems.

I have been through 3 solenoid pack replacements and never threw a code. The last replacement they also replaced the valve body and after about 10k miles I have not noticed any sort of return. Stay on the friend this problem may go a looong way through your ownership.


It baffels the hell out of me how they can categorically deny there is any sort of problem when there is no OBDII code. You can't tell me that a every mechanial, pneumatic or hydraulic problem has a Fing code to define. I have worked on some the most modern combat systems the US Navy has to offer and persoannly witnessed problems that have never been documented or had any predefined code or fault to define it. The techs in these shops are plain lazy.

I can't wait for the class action lawsuit. One day somewhere some poor person is going to get backed over or run over and the driver will be in a Lincoln LS. When they get sued they will explain to the victims atty that the car behaved in a fashion that caused the accident. Further, the driver will tell the atty that he/she took their LS to the delaer for diagnoses but the tech and sa sent them on their way with the advice of dont come back till you get a CEL.

What a crock.
 
How funny that the car is having a recall on this problem with the transmission that I posted earlier this week but not only that the Ford Representative during arbitration told us that they have not been having any transmission problems with the LS vehicle.
We will be getting the recall done.. if that does not do the trick for everyone.. it will be sad that something will have to occurr for Ford to listen. If it wasn;t for families like mine, buying there cars since 1990, and yours there would not be a company named ford. Upsetting when something occurs negative about a car they are so willing to be like "oh sorry there isn;t a code Bye Bye"
 
I have recently purchased 2004 LS V8 and I am having these same problems. I am a single female and need suggestions in order to not get ripped.
 
I am not on the side of FoMoCo by any means...but fail to see a connection between the symptoms being reported and possibly backing over/killing someone?
 
my ls shifts hard.. thought it was 'normal' for these cars' and the only way i can explain it is as it feels like its confused.. i drive it normally and am not like trying to confuse the tranny.. but like going up a 45 degree grade... itll be in second going maybe 30.. i roll slow for a stop sign.. roll thru and it stays in second then jerks into 1st.. seems like its only in 1st to second and 2nd to third.. also the manual shift thing.. it shifts really hard when i do that.. maybe i dont know how to drive an automatic.. ha.
 
next time you go to the dealer demand to do a test drive with the actual mechanic that will be working on your car and hopefully your car shows the same behavior when your are test driving it, you may have a combination of coils and selinoid packs.
