2006 lincoln ls misfire

was wonderin if some one can help me.. My ls started misfiring yesterday.. Only 79000 miles on it v8.. its been a nightmare since with all these codes coming up.. i replaced 2 coils number 1 and 4 but then number 8 showed up so i went out and bought all 8 coils and replaced them all also all the plugs... it is still misfiring onllyyy after like 20 min of driving it. then ill shut the car off to cool down and then the same thing. Car does nnot overheat or anything though... and now im getting the codes p0308 and also p0351.. cylinder 8 is still showing and the car is still misfirin. can any one help me please.. im starting to think its my pcm. the car has spark on all cylinders and def no oil leaking from the valve covers... is there any common sensors that can cause this.. please anybody thanks
 
P0351 indicates one of the following for cylinder #1 (passenger front)

A bad COP (coil), bad enough that a resistance check of the primary of the coil should show it to be bad.
A bad or loose connector to that COP.
A bad wire to that cop, possibly pinched between the valve cover and the coil cover somewhere.
A bad or loose connection at the PCM.
Faulty PCM.

P0308 is a normal misfire code for cylinder 8 (driver rear). You might try swapping the COP and plug at #8 with the one at #7 to see if the code changes to P0307. If it does, replace both the plug and the COP.

Did you check the gap on all of the new plugs before installing them? Also, you have to be careful when installing the plugs. If you drop them in the well or miss the hole to begin with, you can squeeze the gap closed without realizing it.

Another thing to check (for #8 anyway) is to see if the connector on the #8 fuel injector is fully seated.
 
The new pplugs came pregapped i didnt think it wold be that big of a deal liincoln said ..44 and they wwerree aat like .50 :q:q:q:q but i bought the ccoils at aoutozone

It's a really big deal. They need to be at 1mm. 0.050" is enough to cause damage to the coils.

No, it's just outside the allowed range.

Engine Ignition
Firing order 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8
Spark plug gap 1.0-1.1 mm (0.039-0.043 in)
Spark plug type AGSP-32F

I prefer to set them to the minimum, because usually the gap increases as wear erodes the electrodes.
 
Ok thanks alot for your help i appreciiate it ima going to gap them correctly right now and ill get back to u with what happens thanks again
 
Thank you both for ur help.. i gapped them to .039 and the car is runnin llike a charm thumps up to both of u.. i really appreciate ur time

EXCELLENT advice! I will now gap my plugs at the minimum instead of the median value.
 
yeah, thank you for this info, very helpfull and if it makes a LS stop misfire then
that is something to remember to include when trouble shooting.

BTW - what can you guys recommend for best plugs for the LS's ?
 
Gap issue

I'm so glad I read this, my 01 ls has been running misfires since I replaced the plugs. I gapped them after reading this and it now runs great.

I like the factory Motorcraft (SP-467 IIRC) Fine Point Platinum plugs. Some people like the NGK Iridiums, I have no experience with these but I hear good things about them. I have never had an issue with the Motorcraft plugs.

My stock plugs had "Motorcraft NGK" printed on them when the came out earlier this summer, I replaced them with Iridium's and they look very similar. I'm wondering how long Ford has been NGK sourced plugs.

Ford has, over the years, had various manufacturers OEM plugs for them, and I would assume that they still do. I know they've used NGK in some applications for more than 20 years--the "Motorcraft" plugs in the original SHO in '89 were really NGKs.

FWIW, the original plugs in my '06 were also stamped Motorcraft and NGK. I replaced them with NGK Iridiums, but I don't have any data to indicate if they're any better than the factory plugs (I only have a few hundred miles on them, and I have better things to do than pull plugs to check them). The mill is noticeably smoother now, but that's almost certainly because of the new COPs that went in with the new plugs--after all, I replaced the COPs because of misfires...
