Hi All,

Looking to get an opinion. I searched and it appears it has been a while since this really came up. I just replaced my 2000 LS (218K Miles) with a 2006. It has 49K miles on it and warranty will likely expire on the drive home with it.

What are your thoughts on the Ford ESP for the 2006 model? V8 is the engine.

I know I have dumped that much in my 2000 in the last 60K miles so I am leaning towards it but they have several levels.

Any opinions positive or negative welcome.

Thanks,

OP

I've got one on my '03. I bought the best one they had. They take care of anything and everything, no questions asked. You need one on this car.

If you are going to get a extended warranty the Ford ESP is the way to go. There was a Ford dealer in Wayne NJ selling them very cheap. I got My's on line don't remember the address.

I heard its cheaper if you're still under the factory warranty, so if you think you're gonna get one you better act fast.

Don't know about that. The one I purchased for my 2000 was a waste. Didn't use it at all. I have no intention of getting one for either '06. A better investment is bank the money, draw interest and use the money for any expensive repairs.

I've had very few problems with mine from the 21k miles it had when I got it 2 1/2 years ago to the 70k it has now.
1 coil, a rear window regulator and a dccv.
Instead of buying an extended warranty I bought wheels tires, Avic 900BT plus amps and new speakers, Wings West kit, Angel Eyes, Laser Intercepter Jammer, V1 radar detecter, SCT tuner, LSD posi rear pumkin and Ills's turbo kit.

One of the reasons I bought this car instead of a BMW was because of the V8 and the comparatively low price which gave me lots of room for mods.

I have the Ford ESP plan too. $100 co-pay. Got it for a good deal so I'm happy. I'll spend $100 to get things fixed all day long on this car. It paid for itself already, sadly (which is also a good thing :p)

I'd definitely get it for an LS.

Within 3 months of buying a '05 with 27k miles, that was barely driven by some old farts, I had over 2k worth of work (granted, it's dealer prices). Steering column, rack, radio, heater blower, pulleys, and now I got a water pump on the way out. Only paid 1300 for the warranty. I expect many many more issues with the car before the warranty is up. You should too :p

I forgot to add that one of my front heated seat motors went out just around the time the factory warranty expired, and extended warranties don't cover heated seats. Just an FYI.

Here's an idea... take that $1,200 - $1,500 you would spend on the ESP, put it in the bank and don't spend it. Most common items to require repair on the LS run less than that. So you'd be 80% covered for repairs for the next ~2 years and would have emergency money in the bank.

The best way to go if you decide to buy a LS from a Ford/Lincoln or Lincoln dealer is to get a "Certified Pre-Owned". The cost to the dealer for certification is less than $700 and the vehicle is then covered with a 6 year 100,000 mile limited warranty that covers just about everything (similar to a Ford Premium Care service contract). You also get roadside assistance. The hard part is to negotiate the right sales price for the vehicle at the dealer vs. private party.

I would get it!

I paid $1800 with $50 deductable, 100K miles or 2013. If I don't use the $1800 on repairs, I can get a refund on the difference before the warranty expires.

You get the best price through ford.com. The dealer tried to sell me this warranty for $2800! When I called them on it and showed a print out from ford.com showing $1800, they dropped the price $1000. :)

I will be getting it. I picked the car up today. After being on the road stopped to get gas. It still had a quarter tank. Gauge will not go all the way to full, it stops at 3/4. Miles to empty doesn't seem to calculate correctly until after the gauge falls below 3/4 tank.

What is the grace period on the factory warranty? I picked it up w/ 49.4K and went over on the way home by 250 miles.

Check engine came on too. :( Would the gas gauge and CE light be related?

I have a good relationship w/ my dealer here so I am hoping they will work with me. Great car other than that.

The check engine thing has happened to me like that on 5 cars. Must be me. :shifty:

Grace period? That's what your WARRANTY is. If the warranty is 50,000 miles, its 50,000 miles, not 50,250 or 50,173 or 50,001. You may get lucky and find a dealership that will warranty the car for you, but your warranty is over, so I suggest crossing your fingers when you hit the service department.

I guess I phrased my question wrong, what I had meant to ask was is there as grace period where like I was (on a trip) it failed. Again, I have a good relationship with the dealer so hopefully that will help.

I had the codes pulled and it is a P0460 which also matches why the gas gauge will not go to the top.

Anybody experienced getting that code fixed? What was the cost (in case I can't get them to warranty it?)
