Pardon my ignorance, but when I ordered my '06 it was available in only one trim level, V8 Sport. In previous years, LSE and Sport were different trim levels weren't they? In another thread, I believe it was mentioned that the LSE trim level consisted mainly of exterior design cues/parts. So is the '06 "V8 Sport" some kind of combination of Sport (interior? suspension?) and LSE trim levels from previous years?FreeFaller said:and it only comes in LSE trim.
What did Pewter look like? I couldn't find one on a lot before I had to put my order in so I had to go off the color chip in the brochure. It appears to be a medium grey metallic with a steel bluish accent? It was the only new-for-'06 color I could order.02V8Sport said:Brought the 04 in for service at my dealer and seen every 2006 LSE color. They all look awesome!
The Sport is the only model available for '06, but they all come with what was, more or less, previously the LSE appearance package. The '06 LS comes with body-colored lower cladding (previously, it was black near the bottom); it has the LSE lower grille opening; and it has the round fog lamps of the LSE package (previously, the non-LSE fog lamps were oblong).rooter said:Pardon my ignorance, but when I ordered my '06 it was available in only one trim level, V8 Sport. Ah, I see--thanks. Is the body-color grille surround an LSE-thing also?SoonerLS said:The Sport is the only model available for '06, but they all come with what was, more or less, previously the LSE appearance package. The only trim level is "V8 Sport", and they all have the LSE-like front air dam, side skirts, and rear valance. The front grille and rear license plate surround are body-color. The interior trim is aluminum, but you can get two option packages ("Premium" and "Elite"), which will exchange the aluminum for real wood.
I don't know if I like the monochromatic look. I think the car needs some bits of chrome. The lease for my 03 runs out in April, but I'm not sure I want another LS if this is the only way you can get it. I'm currently looking at alternatives, and the Infiniti M35 is at the top of my list.
Yeah, it's American Walnut burl. It's just the finish they have to put on the wood that makes it look plastic. The kinds of finishes used in furnituremaking wouldn't stand up to the temperature differentials and UV damage seen in the interior of a car.captainalias said:Are you sure it's real wood? I'd say that's partly it, but I'd guess that most of it was that they had other (read: profitable) uses for the Duratec V6es. Rather than put them into the last year of a dead model, they can use them (and/or their components) in one of the other Duratec-powered cars that isn't hemorrhaging cash; it also frees up engine production space for other Duratecs. Further, it greatly simplifies (read: decreases costs of) production by going to one drivetrain. The LS has reportedly been a money-loser for Lincoln, so the object of the exercise would be to limit the losses in the final year of production.jac_hms said:i think they dumped the V6 because the new Zephyr now if you want a lincoln with a V6 buy the zephyr
That works unless you have a stock of 3.9l components already produced, since nothing else in the Ford fold uses them. The Duratecs, on the other hand, are used in everything, including the new Zephyr. (There's even a company in the UK that builds performance drivetrains using Duratecs; the Noble supercar uses a Duratec engine that they supply.)beaups said:sell the higher margin version and get rid of all the 3.9L components lying around. Olds did this w/my aurora when they died too (get rid of the 4.0L engine stuff since it's not in other cars)
My apologies; I misunderstood you. I thought you were saying they should ditch the 3.9 and just sell the V6 (which would probably be the higher-margin car, since the Duratecs are almost certainly much less expensive to build than the single-use 3.9). :slambeaups said:that's my point. build all 3.9's to get rid of all those engine components. what else would they do w/them?
