2006 V8 only?

I haven't been following what lincoln is planning for future models. It sounds like 2006 is the last model year for the LS, true? Can the Zephyer compare to the LS interms of performance and handling? Is lincoln giving up on the euro sport sedan market?

My opinion is that the LS is a great car to drive. I've driven many bmw 325 models and have to say that I rather be behind the wheel of an LS.

I'm going to hate to see it go...

Yes

No, the Zepher is just another FWD appliance, comparable to the Lexus ES3XX

Yes

In that order. Sad, isn't it? Lincoln had a chance to do something special with the LS and they totally dropped the ball!

Yes, as Sooner pointed out, it's real wood. It was originally plastic wood in the 2000-2002 models, but was upgraded to real wood in the 2003+ models.

Amazingly, real wood interior trim is also used in the new Mark LT truck. However, I checked out a Mark LT at the New York Auto Show last year, and could have sworn it was plastic. I mean, it looked really fake! It's sad when a beautiful natural material is treated for use in an automobile and comes out looking like some manufactured synthetic crap.

the wood on the zephyr looks amazing though, very genuine.

from a pure p/l standpoint the 3.9 is probably cheaper to build assuming the parts are there. IMO they're paid for and awaiting a writeoff so from a GAAP stanpoint they might as well be free.
Duratecs have to be cheaper to build--Ford uses them in nearly everything they build, from the Mustang to the Zephyr to a whole host of European FoMoCo products. Not only are their devlopment costs paid, but they have the "economies of scale" factor to drive down the component costs.

The '06 MY is the last for the DEW-98 LS. There's supposed to be a replacement in '08, but it may or may not have the LS name. As you might guess from that, the Zephyr is not the LS replacement.

The LS replacement is supposed to be built on the Volvo-derived Ford D3 platform, will be AWD, and will be powered by an iteration of the Ford/Yamaha/Volvo 4.4l V8 that now powers the Volvo XC90.

Given the moves by the Europeans towards AWD cars, I think you could say that Lincoln hasn't quite abandoned that market yet. ;)

My apologies; I misunderstood you. I thought you were saying they should ditch the 3.9 and just sell the V6 (which would probably be the higher-margin car, since the Duratecs are almost certainly much less expensive to build than the single-use 3.9). :slam

the 3.9 litre also goes into the tbird
