Just recently brought some 20 x 8.5 wheels for my 02 LS. But I'm not sure if I should go with the 245 series tire or 255. The wheels offset are +35 and the car is at stock ride height. Any suggestions???

i would reccomend the 245's only because of cost difference its not a big one but 255's are not as common as 245's so in that aspect i would reccomend the 245's also the actuall difference in size is so minscule that you would really not notice it

to add more confusion, there is no government standard/inspection to verify state width. In other words, if you compare a 255 series Firestone tire against a 255 Michelin, you might be suprised to find one is actually 253mm wide, and the other might be 256mm wide.

I've had that issue before. Replaced a 17 inch 245 Yokohama tire on my old bmw with a 245 Falken. The Falken rubbed a bit on the fender, the Yokohama didnt

Yes they are.

The 255s are taller than the 245s. The 255 is the width but the the second number the 35 is the percentage of the 255. The 255 is wider, but aslo taller.

Here are some specs I found at www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator, which compares the stock size with the 245 and 255 series 20 inch tire.

215/60/16 Stock Tires

Rim Diameter: 16 in
Rim Width Range: 5.5 - 8.5 in
Overall Diameter: 26.15 in
Sidewall Height: 5.07 in
Radius: 13.07 in
Circumference: 82.15 in
Revs per Mile: 795.4

245/35/20
Rim Diameter: 20 in
Rim Width Range: 8 - 9.5 in
Section Width: 9.64 in
Overall Diameter: 26.75 in
Sidewall Height: 3.37 in
Radius: 13.37 in
Circumference: 84.03 in
Revs per Mile: 777.5

255/35/20
Rim Diameter: 20 in
Rim Width Range: 8.5 - 10 in
Section Width: 10.03 in
Overall Diameter: 27.02 in
Sidewall Height: 3.51 in

just from experience, I had a 255 with a 42mm offset and there was rubbing. Dont go more than a 245 on there.

obviously you two need to learn your tires before competing against people

competing? wtf r u talkin about?

maybe i should have went into detail in my first post to clear everything up.

here u go

245/35/20
diameter: 26.8 in

255/35/30
diameter: 27 in

the stock 235/50/17 is 26.3 in, y not go with a 245/20 which is 26.8? it's the closest you'll get to stock in a 20 in tire. if u want to save money going to a 255 and throw ur speedo off even more and risk rubbing, have fun with it

try it out urself

and for the record, i understand 255 is width, 255mm to b exact

Hey man, better don't say anything if you don't know what you are talking about.

Hell, I've never seen a 20 series sidewall and I sell tires for a living...

According to the wheel offset calculator at 1010tire.com, you are likely to have problems with clearance, and therefore rubbing. You are extending a full 1.5 inches further out! You really should have bought a much higher offset wheel, especially since you also increased the width. Just because the bolt pattern matches doesn't mean the wheel "fits".

Inner Clearance: 12 mm MORE (the inside of the wheel to the strut housing)
Outer Position: EXTEND an extra 38mm (position of the outside edge of the wheel)

That being said, I would recommend the 245 over 255. They are closer to stock size (diameter).
