3.9 Potential

go to advance search and type in nitrous , some have done it , but had to modify there car smartly to do it and keep the life of the engine the same , any reason why you wanna do that ?

I'm always looking to make my vehicles faster. I have had turbo & supercharged. Never done nitrous. Not saying I'm going to try it just wondered if it was even worth pursuing

fair enough , go to the lincoln ls high performance section and you can see some mods people have done and or tried , not really much you can do to a Ls without modifing the engine , some have gone for the 5.7 swap

I believe the transmission would be the weaker link......

Read some n2o posts. Seems like a 50-75 shot would be safe but idk if its worth it. Would be fun to do a 03-04 cobra swap... need $$$$

id figure so, big changes like that will make you sacrafice some stuff

In full disclosure..... They did work; just full heat or full a/c, no temperature control.

Also in full, full disclosure: The protection features for the compressor were also lost. The way he has/had it wired, the compressor would continue to run even when the refrigerant pressure dropped too low or too high. It was also continue to run even if the evaporator froze over.

the 5R55S is also used in the Mustangs, and is tough enough for the most part.
auto stangs in the 10s with 500 or so HP. that seems to be the upper limit though.
that said, plenty have been trashed for one reason or another as well.

Weren't the windows also permanently up? As in they didn't work.

it seems when people get into serious power mods, they usually either go one of two ways

first the start with big plans and then die out after awhile with not much getting done.

or they wise up and get a car that actually has some support and can make real power...

there have been a small handful of boosted LSs over the years (rarely ever more than one at a time) and probably about the same with bottles.

honestly, I have a hard time seeing a bottle fed LS being a great option. your just so limited on when you can use it and whats its good for unless you drag racing or going for high speed shootouts. and thats the last area the LS would be the car of choice.

To sum up all of the posts here and to make a long story short, the 3.9 has no potential.

You could look at it another way, and say that it is already at its full potential.

The LS is a particular compromise between cost, performance, handling, safety, and comfort. I think they did a fairly good job of making the combination that I wanted.

I agree completely, Joe. But these threads pop up all the time where people are trying to modify the 3.9. I should clarify and say it has no modification potential. Even the intake won't give you any HP gains.

Im very happy with what they did to the LS i think they put a very good amount of HP to this Luxury car.....
