One thing she convieniently omits to mention though, shooting of abortionists is a federal crime, peforming abortions is legal. But then again, conservatives aren't known for letting the law stand in the way of their religious beliefs.

Actually, my uncle lives in a small town in western Kansas and their Church had an event that Phelps decided to protest (don't know what the event was, or what was being protested). So, my uncle got a huge piece of posterboard wrote something on it took it there with him. What he wrote was, "Fred Phelps is proof that Darwin was wrong". ;)

Abortion Doctor's Murder Sparks Waves Of Calm, Rational Discussion

WICHITA, KS—The cold-blooded murder of late-term abortion doctor George Tiller, 67, who was gunned down last week by a pro-life activist during services at a local church, has ignited a firestorm of thoughtful, quiet debate about the practice of abortion. "When I saw how [Dr. Tiller] was shot in the head at point-blank range, I couldn't help but think, 'Maybe the other side has some logical points worth listening to,'" pro-choice activist Melinda Brody said. "I have a feeling this senseless act of violence will help resolve the divisive reproductive-rights issue once and for all." Brody also said she's encouraging doctors across the country to double the number of late-term abortions they perform in hopes of provoking even more open and rational dialogue.

At this point it's little consolation, but Department of Homeland Security head Janet Napolitano turned out to be more prescient about domestic extremism than many of her critics.

In April, she got an earful from conservative bloggers and radio pundits after DHS issued a nine-page report, "Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment," which warned of the potential for violence from rightwing fringe groups.

In part, the critics' distemper was connected to language which they said unfairly singled out returning veterans and conservatives. Here's what the report said:

"Returning veterans possess combat skills and experience that are attractive to rightwing extremists. DHS/I&A (Office of Intelligence and Analysis) is concerned that rightwing extremists will attempt to recruit and radicalize returning veterans in order to boost their violent capabilities."

Napolitano soon backtracked from that particular paragraph and sought to defuse the mini-controversy by making the larger point that department's job is to monitor the risks of domestic violent extremism.

"We don't have the luxury of focusing our efforts on one group; we must protect the country from terrorism whether foreign or homegrown and regardless of the ideology that motivates its violence," she said.

But in the last month, the nation has been rocked by two instances of violence committed by suspects linked to the sorts of extremist movements to which the report pointed.

Scott Roeder, the man being held in custody for the murder of abortion doctor George Tiller, was a member of the anti-government group, the Montana Freemen, according to an interview his father granted to the Topeka Capital-Journal after the arrest.

And on Wednesday, Stephen Tyrone Johns, who worked as a guard at the Holocaust Museum in Washington D.C., died after James von Brunn, an 88-year-old white supremacist and military veteran, reportedly opened fire. Police are questioning von Brunn, and his motivations are yet unclear. But on his Web site, van Brunn touts a book he wrote as "a new hard hitting expose of the JEW CONSPIRACY to destroy the White gene-pool."

Connecting the dots is guaranteed to be a contentious, if not fraught exercise. But as the news filtered out, some liberal bloggers did not hesitate to draw conclusions.

The Washington Monthly's Steve Benen put it this way:

"The Republican hysteria over the DHS report -- which was, by the way, initiated by a Bush administration official -- was always based more on a partisan scheme than reality, but the incessant complaints look especially misguided today," he wrote.

For Matthew Yglesias, the grisly aftermath of the Tiller and Holocaust Museum shootings left little ambiguity about where to look.

"I hope that everyone who mau-maued the Department of Homeland Security for expressing concern about this kind of thing feel appropriately ashamed of themselves," wrote Yglesias.

It's pretty simple, let me spell it out for you in 1st grade terms so you might have a chance to understand: The freedom of religion all people are granted in this great country we live in does NOT grant permission to break the laws of this land.

No, you aren't supposed to run and hide.. You should defend yourself better than just saying "the government is right" (you might as well say the government is God, we know how they like to act like they are).

Actually, it's simpler than that. I'll put it in pre-school terms so you might have a chance to understand: Freedom of anything is a God given right, NOT granted by "this great country."

Freedom -

1. the state of being free or at liberty rather than in confinement or under physical restraint

2. exemption from external control, interference, regulation, etc.

3. the power to determine action without restraint

Commandment #6: Thou shall not murder.

It doesn't give ANY exceptions. So not only do you advocate breaking the laws of the US, you advocate breaking GOD's commandment, and you've shown you have no morals. Thanks, thats good to know, hypocrite.

If you don't like the rules and regulations of our government, there ARE ways to change those rules without breaking laws. Or are they too complicated for you to understand?

This is a load of crap, "Right Wing Extremism" is liberal term used to describe AMERICANS who believe in the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of hapiness. (redundancy again, but I have to put it in pre-school terms for you to have a chance to understand)

Freedom ALSO includes being imune to having other's beliefs shoved down your throat. YOU may believe abortions take the life of "innocent human beings", but obviously not everyone in this country belives that. Since the law can't take sides on religious beliefs, there is only one "court" that can decide that, GOD's "court". It is HIS judgment to pass on those having and performing abortions, not YOURS, not MINE, not any court of the USA. I don't advocate abortion, but I do support other's CHOICE. The decision to have an abortion is THEIR decision between themselves and GOD. If those having and performing abortions want to go to hell when their judgement day arrives, who the hell are YOU or I to stand in their way?
