5r55n valve body shift kit install?

depends on how well you transmissions and if you run into problems as well as if you have the proper tools. But because I know these cars, I would say reserve a day for it. not something you do one night after work and hope it it will be done by the next day.
 
I did mine in about 2 hours. You will need a 10mm wrench that is cut to about 2-3 inches long to get the solenoid pack electrical connector bolt out. It isnt much fun. Other than that, its fairly simple if your are mechanically inclined.
 
Like said above, the valve body kit itself is pretty easy to install...getting to it is a bit time consuming.
 
I'm a little puzzled about your 'shift kit'. I got all the trans improvement I want from the use of the SCT programmer.

Comment on your plan, please!

my cars at the shop and it need work the guy says i need a shift kit installed to improve my shifts of the car he wants like $650 the part cost under a $100 bucks plus trans oil and a filter i think that way to much for the little work that needs to be done
 
quick question...when replacing the solenoid pack, should the body be ordered & replaced with the solenoid pack?
 
A shift kit by itself won't change much. A tuner will do much more.

The valve body typically does not need to be replaced, although these trannys do tend to break some of the springs.
 
If you have specific reasons to suspect the valve body, then sure. Otherwise, no. Check all the springs when you have it out.
Note the discussions a few weeks ago about getting dud solenoids from 800700. Check anything you get very closely.

I think it's the 4/3 pre-stroke that has the most common failures.

I've been doing alot of reading on the 5R55 over the past few days and can tell you a little about the valve body kit. Transgo's kit will replace the tension of springs and small design changes on the spring valves. Most will be replaced. Not hard if the VB is in front of you and you have the tools. This will firm up the shifts and give better all around fluid control. It really is not bad considering the prices I have seen. I would only recommend it if the solenoid and/or the valve body are going to be replaced anyway because of the labor. WAY too much labor if the solenoid and/or VB are not going to be replaced. It would be cheaper for a tune and increase the line pressure.

Ahh yes...looks like another thread where I can trash 800700trans. IMO nobody should deal with these people. They will not issue refunds if you get bad parts from them, only exchange and you pay shipping. Not good for business if you ask me

on their site it says you wouldn't need a valve body with their kit, so I would follow http://www.sonnax.com/system/instruc...947J-S2-IN.pdf <-- these directions for replacement? I'll most likely take it somewhere...worst case, I'll get a solenoid pack...

it's not that bad yet (the way the trans shifts, etc), it's bearable, but annoying sometimes, especially 4th to 5th

I agree. Unless you can do it yourself i wouldn't recommend just putting the kit it, because it will be costly. I'm getting my tranny replaced hopefully this week, its on its way, and i'm putting a shift kit in. Its going to cost me an extra $100.
