Hey guys as the title states, I have an 03 and want to swap my 6 disc for a single cd and tape so I don't have to use those stupid radio adapters for my iPhone. Will I run into any issues or is this plug and play?

And just so I don't get this a million times lol, I just am not a fan of how aftermarket radios look in cars so not an option for me.

Why not use a PIE aux input adapter instead? (It adds a direct audio input that does not go through the radio tuner.)

I wasn't aware of that type of adapter, anyone mind elaborating? Is it easy to do?

so I looked up the adapter, couple issues. the cost seems higher than the cassette/single disc factory radio's I have been finding, the adapters also don't seem to work with the 6 in-dash player, and I am a little weary of having to modify any factory wiring on a car this old. long story short I would like to stick with using the factory unit and just pop in the cassette aux adapter whenever I want to use an mp3 player or my phone. any info on whether or not the factory units are interchangeable?

Anyone? I found one I would like to purchase today.

since you have an 03, there is going to be a complication in replacing your radio.

the early production 03's used the older ford harness, after a certain point, they switched to the newer style plug...

the radio you re[lace yours with will have to have the same set of plugs (all of them)

you will need to remove your radio to see which plugs you have.

also for the record, the reason aux adapters cost more than cheap cassette adapters is because they sound and work better. some cassette players have problems playing those cassette adapters, and some cheap cassette adapters have trouble playing in a lot of players and the sound quality is always decent at best...

also the logic to not modifying wiring on a car this old is kinda backwards... the older the car, the simpler the wiring and the easier to make simple changes. modern day cars are quite a bit easier to cause major damage to multiple computers with all the data lines and such vs cars from over a decade ago or older.

That's the thing the LS seems to have a lot of integrated electronics so I don't want to disturb anything as they seem finicky to say the least. I understand the sound quality will not be the best because I've used those adapters for some time on the crown vics I have owned as dd's in the past.

Is there a build date to the switch in plugs on the back of the radio?

I'm sure there is, but I don't know if anyone here knows the exact date.

I know that you are not going that way, but for anyone else who finds this thread, I would like to point out that several of us have install the PIE adapters, and AFAIK, in no case has it resulted in any problems with the audio or with the rest of the car.

Thanks, I guess I'll just pull it out and look, the guy selling that unit sent me a picture of the back. If I did do the pie route how have people resolved the issue of having the in-dash 6 disc not having a aux/phone/ or sat button that most sites say is needed?

Thanks for all the replies, don't mess with audio stuff much so I apologize for all the questions.

Picture of the radio front??????

Never mind..... The PIE adapter adds a CDDJ option to the CD button. That's why you need to know the build date (on the tag on the driver's "A" pillar).

This may be what you need. I would shoot an email to Andy just to make sure.....

^^Thanks!!! We've been emailing, amazing response time. He is looking into a specific aux adapter for my year, I don't want to commit to an iPhone/iPod type only so Andy is going to look based on my year for aux only. Going to take the advice from the others on here and not do the tape deck idea since these seem to be plug and play type adapters. Thanks again for all the help everyone.
