I can't find my thermostat. I know this probably sounds dumb, but can someone tell me where it is located?

It's a satelite unit, floating inbetween the engine and the bottom of the radiator. If you look down from above the engine, you'll see all the hoses running into it, on the driver's side.

inside that floating unit was a metal ring and a rubber spacer, but no thermostat.are those rings suppose to be in there as well or is there a different location for the thermostat?

Nope, thats the location of it...

It sounds like there was'nt a t-stat in it. What was your reason behind "changing" it out?

Are you sure it isn't lodged in the top half of the tstat housing? I have seen that before.

The pattented tried and proven 10 minute tstat swap consists of the followong:

1) Get car in the air via ramps or a lift and drain the coolant.
2) Get yourself a 3/8 drive ratchet and a 10mm socket on a 2ft extension.
3) Come in from the bottom and wiggle the sockets way up to the tstat housing bolts and break loose and remove.

Its that simple. It takes 10 minutes in most cases. Becareful eventhough you drain the coolant its still VERY messy.

Good point geno....

It could have been stuck in the top portion of it. if it was building up too much pressure, it COULD have been low on coolant. Did you check the leve prior to working on it?

What do you do about stuborn bolts? I think the Mark 8 I have has the original one. The car has 120,000 plus miles.

I let the car run until normal operating temperature is achieved then I spray those bolts (from the top) with "PB Break Free"
