95 Base vs GTO.....?

Hi guys. My buddy has a bone stock 5.7L GTO and has been wanting to run me for a while. I keep pushing it off cus ill be honest, i dont want to lose. lol I have a base model gen 1 with dual exhaust ( not cats, stock mufflers ) and a cold air intake (K&N wilth ice-box). j-mod. Tokico springs (better launch maybe?) and continental tire ultra high performance summer tires. Chances?

so your saying i dont stand a chance? How bad do you think a 60 roll would go over?
 
His car weighs same as yours, he has 65 more CI's and 70 more HP and a 6 speed trans. Game over. ;)
 
Yeah, you dont stand a chance. I used to get walked by them all the time with gears, tune, full exhaust, trac loc yada yada. Installing a KB twin screw corrected that problem though. Well untill I ran a 6.0 with tune and exhaust, he walked me. :(
 
Yea, I know not to even attempt to race won. Cars are heavy but with 5.7 or 6.0 engine, they will smoke us. One came down to my neighbors house to visit, it's manual and sounds mean. When he gets on it though, sounds like :q:q:q:q, has alot of back pressure, must have to mufflers or cats or something. Hard to hang, even with 99+ Mustang GT's. :(
 
Don't race this guy, he's looking for an easy kill. He knows that he has you beat, just smile and change the subject.

I agree with Pepperman..... I've beaten a few guys I had no business running against. If you hook up, while he sits and spins, he loses. Ya can't be afraid to be beaten doing so though. Then again, if you're afraid of being beaten, then your car should never be raced. My wife has a 2000 Mustang GT, she's pretty good about getting on it too. We'll play with each other leaving lights sometimes, if I get the light on her, bury the throttle, & got a tail wind... I can eat her up in my LSC. You've just gotta catch that perfect storm & not be afraid to ride the lightening. :)
 
so many of you lately come on here with this question, my buddy has this and he wants to race what should i do. :q:q:q:qing race him, if you lose so what, what are you losing? a race, thats all. you arent losing your house, your kids, your wife, your job, its a car, against another car, race it and if you lose who cares? you'll have fun trying at least. its all in good fun.

Pretty much what I was saying as well. If ya don't wanna lose, don't race it... if you do run your mouth about how fast your Mark is to someone & they run you & eat your lunch, so be it... Just remember one thing that is usually the case in these race instances, not all, but close to it - to most of these cars running us Mark VIII owners are Sports Cars plain & simple, not Luxury Sports Coupes, or Luxury Cars. If you lose a race to a sports car tell them that is supposed to happen, now go get in your luxury car & see how it fairs vs my luxury car. :) Mark VIII are in kind of a league of their own in the car world except for BMW and Mercedes, & those cars aren't as big as our luxury rockets are.
 
or you could take off at the launch and do a pit manuver to him as he pulls on you then you'll woop his ass!!
 
My buddy has a 06 6.0 6 speed with cat back slps and walks me a little bit from a complete stop, it isn't brutal but those cars are damn quick, I really like them.:)

Don't be afraid to run him. I mean, worst case scenario, you get beat. As long as you didn't put any money or titles on the line, you haven't lost anything. Some of my best racing kill stories came from me racing cars that should have handed me my ass, but somehow I beat them. Even if he wins, it'll be a fun experience, and like some of the guys mentioned above, you've got a luxury car- so what if you don't win? You've got the classier ride.

Now that being said, if you want to know about the GTO's, they're quick. Of course, the ones I've seen run on the street are all 6.0's, but I imagine the 5.7 isn't too far behind. As far as trying to get an advantage by going from a rolling start, forget about it. Those things don't give out on top-end either. I'd have to say, from what I've seen, they're faster than a stock or close-to-stock Mark VIII all across the board. If I were you, I'd go from a dig and take the chance of him spinning the tires off the line. Just make sure you get a good launch so if he does spin, you can take full advantage of it.
 
As long as you haven't been talking about how fast your car is and how you can take anything on the road ... Race him ...

Or you can say ... we'll I'd like to see how close I can stay with you ...

If you lose close he'll respect your car. If he blows your doors off .. well then he'll think you have a big "old" Lincoln.

if you win then ... cool!.
 
I agree with Jamie. Race him if you lose you lose and it just might motivate you to beat him next time.

Those LS motors are hard to :q:q:q:q with. The 5.7s are a tad slower but can still run high 13s. The 6.0s, even faster yet, like low to mid 13s with a good driver. Full bolt-ons should get you there, but then again, he's still stock. Sucks, don't it. :)
