just want to say hey to the community...i stick to NASIOC since i'm a subaru driver...anyways, my friend picked up a 95 conti and we attempted to install a CD deck in it last night to replace the factory tape deck-

well, he has the JBL premium sound- so i told him we better hit circuit city to grab the right wiring harnesses/install kit since factory premium sound setups usually have 2 plugs and it's much easier to get the correct metra harness...

well we find the correct face plate kit in the remaining bins full of car install stuff (since the place is going out of buisiness)...then i find a metra 5601 tuner bypass kit and put it aside...i talk to the guy working that section and he informs me "it's going to be a metra 5600" so i drop the tuner bypass kit and grab the other bag of harnessess...

turns out he was wrong (guy at circuit city) and doing some searching it seems that i need to get a metra 5601 tuner bypass kit and pull wires from the trunk to the aftermarket deck (i pulled the rear deck down and saw the factory amp and what looks like the 'tuner' in the trunk)...is this how it's done with the conti and JBL premium sound when putting in a deck??

i just want to make sure on this so we can bang out this install today as i have a new set of gauges to install in my subaru

thanks in advance

Well you can do all that but the best suggestion is to rewire the speakers using the new head unit no real reason for the bypass. Just pull new wires. Running new head through old AMP isn't the best solution but it can be done I did it on my 95 Mark VIII by just using a scoche wire harness and nothing else. Works fine but on that car I wasn't trying for the perfect sound. This is a short wire the harness to the new head unit and then plug in. All you need to do.

Bypass Idea

I am going to be helping my brother bypass his factory amp on his Hyundai, I wonder if the same could work here.

Just hook up the wiring behind the headunit and then get to the factory amp and cut the ins and outs and bridge them appropriately so as to bypass the factory amp with the new HU signal. Unless you are amping the speaks, the wires will work fine and its alot less work than re wiring the whole thing. any questions pm me or add to this post...
