96 Mark VIII Headlights...anyone try these yet ?

I asked this a while back. I wouldn't think the ones you listed would be bright enough, but did just put in a 3157 30W led for the cornering light and it is pretty bright. Almost looks at bright as the HID - see pics below.
I also asked about the Superbright Cree LED's (large yellow circle, with a cooling fan) see link, I was going to buy them, but our black dust cover wouldn't fit over the fan/base of light. The one below is a new design and the base is only 24 mm, so it may fit.

I just found the first link and these searching now. This is not as bright as above 8k (4000 lumens a bulb). but to give an idea of brightness - our OEM high beam headlight is listed at 1700 lumens and the silver base looks very simular to our black dust cover.

I am watching this closely as I find even LSC specials on my '98 are inadequate at high speed in Montana. My right front fender paid the price for my hubris. Maybe just a separate set of fogs?

If you're looking for a major gain like that, might just want to weld up a brush guard and get some rally lights of those large LED bars.
Adding fogs or switching to LED bulbs will be null.
Didn't anyone try LED's headlights for the Hi beams? I've been watching these for the last couple of years and with tech making everything smaller, I found a set of 9005 that will fit the M8 2nd Gen.
They cost was only $40.00, and that included delivery, with a 3 year warranty. They are 4500 Lumens each. The regular halogen bulb is 1700 Lumens. These are much brighter and instant on. Great for Flash to Pass.
It is a tight fit, but with patience they will go in. Instructions for those insterested below.
First secure the small ballast (it isn't a ballast, but it is similar to one in a HID kit, just smaller...you get the idea). I used Velcro.
Then put connect stock wiring harness to LED wiring harness and insert this before the bulb.
Then install LED bulb. Be careful it will go in, incorrectly and you will know as the dust cover will not lock into the headlamp housing. If you install the bulb first you won't get the stock harness inside the light. You don't want the stock harness in the dust cover or behind the bulb as that is where the fan is. Best not to block it with the harness.
Make sure you bulb is't larger than 33 Millimetres in diameter and 30 mm in length from base out or back.

The last pic, simply because it looked sweet all dark around, with the Lincoln logo lit up

So is there a chance these will over heat when the factory dust cover is back on?
I do not believe so. There was very little movement of air outside at the very back of the heat sink. Plus I ensured that the small digital box (control module, I called the ballast for easy identification) was on the bottom of light laying flat, as to not restrict air flow. Same with the stock wiring harness (all out of way as much as possible). These headlight fixtures have a lot of air volume being as big as they are, so I do not think it will be an issue.
