So it started a week ago. From neutral to first gear it started slipping... I have no leaks and all other gears work just fine. When it does move.. It will move at idle speed but it when I give it gas only the rpm's goes faster and not the car. It only took a week and then I'm driving and stop at a stop light and give it gas and the car will not move... Just like that!! GONE.. There is no whining noises or clunking or anything... Anyone have this problem too??? Does the tyranny need to be replaced or maybe some sensor??? Any ideas would be helpful.... I have loved the mark 8 since I was a kid.. My father bought 5 of these cars and had two left.. He just died in February and left me these cars and I can not im imagine doing anything but keep them drive able .. Thanks

Pull the dipstick and look at the fluid. If it is brown and burnt smelling, it is likely toast. By the way, I am 35 minutes south of you. There is a small group of us here in MN. Between all of us, we might be able to help you find a trans if need be. I am rocking an AA Salvage yard tranny out of a 99 Crown Vic with no issues. That yard is not too far from you, maybe 20 minutes if I was to guess right on 65. I paid a measley $150 for a tranny with like 70K miles on it.

Edit: Oh crap, I thought Mora was closer to Cambridge than I had perceived. You're about an hour out from me. Either way, we can still help.

Yes, and if you can get a 98+ 4R70W you can powershift that thing all day long like it has a hammer shifter in it. Don't ask me how I know. LOL And really my only point there is that they are much more durable from 98 on. I'm putting a lot of rpms through this thing like, well, all the time. LOL

One thing I always change out anyways is the MLPS on old cars. They are cheap and nice to know a newer improved one is on trans. MLPS tell trans where the shifter is and what gear to be in. Sometimes these get water in them and mess up. Also if you get new trans get a 1998 only. They are drop in to your year and have alot of better parts inside. I found many for 200 on car-parts.com.

I'm sorry I just didn't have the time to swing through today. I am being told that your trans may be dead. It doesn't sound like MLPS related symptoms. BUT, you might get away with swapping in some new electronics on the bottom of the valve body. I would suggest a pan drop and inspect the fluid and magnet. Please post pics of what you see if you can. The electronics that I am referring to is your 1-2 and 3-4 shift solenoid packs, your TCC solenoid and I think there might be on other up in there.

Also, regarding your username, you need to pm "Joeychgo"

Shoot.. I just bought the MLP sensor and was going to give it a try.... I was talking with my ol'lady and we talked about throwing a Barbaque for the mark 8 guys.. She and her dad run K&R meats in mora and she said for helping with this we could all meet at a place that is good for everyone... So let me know any other things we can do and let's set something up.... Thanks
