i had the #2 coil replaced by the dealership and they said they replaced the plug, coil, and vavle gasket. about a few weeks later i have the same misfire but not as bad, it rarely happens. do i have to replace my valve gasket and all the coils. because the dealership replaced it, should i just check my coils to see if the dealership didnt check my other coils for oil on them. by the way i have an 01 v6

You may have a misfire, but it may be from another cylinder. Tough call on the V6 as to whether you want to do it yourself... getting that intake plenum off can be a PITA. My guess is that the dealer just replaced the one faulty coil, the plug and called it a day. They probably didn't test all of the coils.

FWIW, several things can cause a misfire... the crappy coil, a fouled plug (oil), a faulty injector, or an interuption in the wiring harness. Most common are the first two. If you can get the plenum off, check for oil in the plug wells. If that's a no go, then a dealership can load balance test the ignition system to see which coils have the most resistance and are most likely to cause a misfire.

the driver side is not too hard to check, u can do tha without taking too much off, but its the passenger side that is bad. If you can, check the driver siad for oil soaked coils and/or plugs, you will be able to see right away if they are. Mine started out barely noticable, but then got progressivly worse till my C.E.L. came on, then I replaced all of them. I did my coils, V.C. gaskets, spark plugs and pcv hose myself. All with the help of like three different articles in the tech section. It is a PITA, but you can do it, just make sure you have the right tools and about 4 hours.
Let me know if you need any more advice, like i said I have first hand knowledge how to do this.

How much did this cost you? I need mine replaced too, cylinder 4 misfire. I dont want to do it, just not that sure of myself to do it right.

they already didn the hard side for you. cylinder #2 is on the passenger side.

You can easily check the driver side yoru self, all you have to do is remove the plastic engine cover.

When ever I get a high mileage v6 LS with a misfire on the passenger bank, wether it be a leaking cam cover gasket, or deteriorated pcv hoses under the lower intake manifold I always give the customer the option of replaing all the coils on the passenger side while the intake is off so they dont have to end up paying the labor to change them out later when they go bad, and they will go bad.

I would esp give this option if i was doing all the work of the cam cover gasket on that side. Most customers agree it may cost a little more now but save them later.

apreciate all the help. the dealership would have checked all the coils on the passenger side right? or would they have just changed my bad coil and not worry about the other coils. i'll check my drivers side coils. i was planning on changing all my coils later on anyways.

coil replacement

Can i just take off the intake manifold to get to the plugs and coils OR does everything in the tech article have to come off? whatever is the easiest? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
