I have an 01 Lincoln LS that the other day going home from work popped up an advancetrak off error. I immediately saw my ABS, Parking Brake Light go on. I thought this was kind of wierd. From reading on here I thought it was a wheel sensor. And because my speedometer would go from my exact speed to 0 mph randomly I figured it was a rear wheel sensor.

Anyways I drove the car home and noticed my odometer was displaying ------- (dashes) also. It would randomly do that, but then all of a sudden display my actual mileage. On the second day the car got worse. Basically in a nutshell, if the car is in park and the odometer displays ------- (dashes) I cannot put the car in park. Keep in mind I still have all the symptoms in the subject line at this time. If I wait long enough and the odometer suddenly flashes my correct mileage, I can put the car in drive no problem. The tranny doesnt shift hard or seem to have any problems.

I have replaced the Rear Wheel Sensors this last weekend and the car is still having all of the issues above. Does anyone have any ideas what the next step would be to try. I checked all my Fuses and everything checks out fine.

ANY help would be greatly appreciated as I am completely lost as to what to check for. I want to take it to a shop to have it diagnosed, however i will have to pay for towing. So if there is anyone who has seen these problems and has a good idea of what it is, please let me know. I appreciate any help.

Have your alternator and battery tested at AutoZone for free. These cars do wacky sh*t when either of them are on the way out.

well i had the same problem it turned out to be the abs modual. luckly it was covered under warrenty but the told me it cost about $300 + another 180 to program and install. but then again i have a 2005 LS.

well idk about the transmission when my abs modual went bad the symptoms you described in the previous post occured and replacing it fixed the problem but as far as locking the transmission goes i dont think it would affect the trasmission but i may be wrong.

Yea, looks like im inline for a tow then to the dealership- Its frustrating because once in gear the tranny works fine, but something electronic is keeping me from putting the car into gear.... Anybody know of a good place to buy a used ABS Module with advancetrak and ABS?

Tranny now working

Apparently a connector thats hooked under the dash came loose which is why I couldn't put the car in gear. I still have the dash problems with the errors. I took it to get diagnosed and they thought the main PCM was messed up because it was spitting out all sorts of error codes. It would not even read the ABS system according to the tech.

Does anyone know where I can get a orice listing for the PCM computer online?

Google places like car-part. You should be able to find what you want.

slaney30 - did you ever get the issues worked out with the odometer reading dashes? my Ls does the same thing, as well as the abs issues.

and if you wound up getting a pcm for the ls was it any good?

thx

Would a bad ABS module electronically lock my Transmission from going into gear?

Not sure on the LS, but on my '93 Tore-ASS SHO, I had a similiar problem that wouldn't let me get the tranny out of park. I had tons of problems with the ABS (which never got resolved totally). The Taurus has a cable that holds the shifter in park if it is freaking out. I removed some console trim and removed the cable that is attached to the shifter. Then I could drive it.

I got these issues resolved. I took it to several shops. The 1st said it was the main computer. He fixed me not being able to put the car in gear. Apparently there is a cable hooked up to the brake that had wiggled loose.

He couldn't figure out the abs, dash problems.

I took it to a ford dealer, he traced it to a wire underneath my passenger side front fender that had some how gotten pinched and cut. He patched that up and my problems were solved.

I never ended up having to replace any of the hardware.

Thx slaney, I'm going to have a look at that harness under the fender this weekend.

bought the fem for no reason I suppose, at least I wont need to have it programmed now, any buyers? make an offer.

after years of head scratching I finally found the culprit, yours may have been on the harness under the passenger fender but my bad wire was on the harness coming out of the fuse box under the hood, passenger side. Same harness just a different area I guess. About 6 inches from the fuse box there was a wire going into two wires that was corroded green. after patching that up my odometer displays the mileage (56365!) and I didn't check but I'm hoping this also cured the issue of my brake and spoiler light staying on all the time.

there were several corroded wires I found all along the harness, I'm surprised anything worked to be honest.

I've heard of this problem area once before but couldn't find the post, hope this helps someone else out some day.

IM HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS...and i looked behind my passenger wheel and the tire rubbed all the plastic covering on the wires off...how did you patch it up? ive had this problem for weeks and finally found this damn thread!

it's really tedious work, but basically you just have to patch any exposed wires. I cut the wires on mine and soldered in patches, covered with heat shrink tubing.

I am currently having these same problems/symptoms with my 03 Ls V8. i will check these wires and report back.

I know this is an old thread, but has anyone had these same symptoms and found some problems other than wiring? I've searched and found a few suggestions (rear ABS sensors) and replaced them to no avail. The wiring appears to be fine.

Take it to Ford and have them scan the computer for errors and pay the diagnostics fee.

no worries mate old threads contain valuable info.

I fought these symptoms for years, many mechanics mystified.. many parts thrown at it. in the end I found the frayed wires after reading a post on a random forum.

have you tried to have the codes read? does your dash display data sensor error if you hit status?

take it to auto-zone and have em do it for free, but if your LS is like mine was, the reader wont be able to communicate with the FEM.

The Autozone readers are unlikely to be able to pick up the ABS codes.

ABS codes

I scanned with my Actron ABS scanner and got codes B1676-(Battery pack out of range),and B1342-(Anti-lock brake control module failure). checked voltages and got 12.5 with car off and 14.8 with engine idling.I took the battery out and had it tested at Wal-mart and Advance(both checked good).I have no confidence in any of the Ford dealers within 30 miles of me(there are only 3,long story).

Frayed wires

Exactly where will I find the frayed wires? Inside the wheel well or underneath the hood?
