Has anyone completely removed the ABS out of a Mark8..I,m toying with the idea..But this system apears differant than my old 89 Cougar XR-7 SC.I know when i did this i used a Crown vic booster and a T-Bird master.. I used the search function with no luck!!!!...Any help would be great...

I did that to my old 5spd 90 mark vii...cutting it out of the wiring harness and what not wasnt worth it. I would only imagine it would be way more involved on the mark viii.

Basically i could only go so far without taking the entire harness apart and rewrapping it that i just followed the wires as far as i could, cut them out, dipped each 3x in liquid electrical tape, then taped them up, and rewrapped it.

remember you will lose the traction control too

I will say this, its a system some dont realize is used as much as it is.

My 73 Mark IV had ABS issues, so I removed it. BAD idea! lol

I just don't understand why you would want to remove the abs... doesn't make one bit of sense to me.

You could always just take the ABS relay out, and see how you like driving without it.

Well I remember when I got my VII my first abs car I wanted to remove it.

I used to like to wipe my 86 T-Bird out buy slammin on the brakes and turning. Could also skid into turns neatly. Even just the occassional skiddin to a stop with the rear kicked out to the side was fun.

I almost crashed my VII trying to hang a turn one nite.

The fun of the old cars....

4 words for you
Out Of Your Mind

why would you even think it, how about leave it in and working so no one on the road has to worry about dieing when you drive your car around after hacking the brakes up.

Of course, if you do get in an accident and they notice the ABS is gone the insurance company will have you on a platter.

If its all about "controlled skids" then maybe a kill switch would be better.

Maybe he is used to the mark VII / thunderbird turbo coupe system which was a complete nightmare. A lot of people had to switch this type of system to a conventional system. He just might not be familiar with the Mark VIII braking system. Maybe he wants to switch it for other reasons as well. We don't know since he hasn't responded since the initial post. Maybe he will be back.

Yes...Thank you....I am..And also the 89-95 SC-XR7 abs set up...As long as i know its pretty full proof i,m keeping it in there...I,m just worried it will fail going down the road like it did on my 89 XR7..It wasn,t fun.,..

Thank you Turborich...

Not a problem, There are still parts available for the mark VIII at pic a parts, parts vehicles, etc. I think the Mark VIII has a much better set up than the previous cars mentioned. I really think you you be just fine with the factory system. I'm not sure how the 89 XR7 was, but the 87-88 turbo coupes had an electric motor mounted to the master cylinder, it was not vacuum assisted. It was a real pain, bad relays, burnt wires, etc!
