Ok at first I was hoping it was just a leaky vacuum hose... well I went to checkers and got a new one... it fixed the rough idle... but when we accelerate there's a really bad shudder... I think it the fuel filter might need replacing... have no idea if it ever has been... but I was wondering one how hard is it?... I have a 97' mark viii... and also is there anything else I should check?... just in case?... I think when I change the fuel filter I'm gonna change the air filter and take out the air isolator all at the same time...

Check the cop plug boots. If you do not notice anything, then try Mercon V fluid change in the tranny....could be part of the problem.

I had the same problem, it was my torque converter, I had the fluid flushed and it was fine.

is it low rpm shudder i had that problem a few years back mostly in 3rd to 4th gear at low rpms thought it was the torque converter locking up did plugs and wires and that solved it always use mercon v in the trans

sorry for the necro post. How many miles did you all have on the car before you switched to mercon V? I got that shutter at 30mph and 50mph under light acceleration. I'm worried about ending up with 5 neutrals. I'm at 84k miles now, doubt its ever been changed. I heard a factory dealer costs more, but they'll warranty their work if it causes the tranny to fail.

20k!!? dam rich, it should be flushed around 45k and i switched to merc v at 140k, and 10 k later still going good.

had the same problem with my mark. everyone kept telling me plugs/wires. well being the stubbern person i am i replaced everything else i could think of triing too save a buck. but ending up braking down and purchasing the wires/plugs.wow now it run like a champ
