Aftermarket Exhaust vs. Muffler Delete

I cut out my mufflers and left everything else, it has a deep bass hum at idle and a nice subtle rumble at low rpms but you really cant hear it on tha hiway with the road noise, does anyone know if it has more of a crackle without the resonators and without the mufflers on an 04? I'd rather hear it first before i try it -2004 3.9 V8 stock...

being that it's a duratec engine, good luck with making it sound good. however, you might wanna take a look at stock 05+ Mustang GT mufflers. SHO and Duratec Taurus guys have been having decent results with those without it sounding like a 2 stroke blender with light bulbs in it.

I'd like to hear this. Could be a very economical upgrade, as folks usually can't even give stock mufflers away. Andy

something to take in mind unlike what Alax7 first said is that his Gen II has 2.25" piping stock whereas our Gen I have only 2.00" piping...so it is best to replace the pipes right after the cats. I for one have stainless steel straight pipes from the back of the cats to my magnaflow mufflers and then magnaflow tips. sounds very nice and even in hard or uphill acceleration, it's so loud ppl behind me start driving slower to allow a bigger gap :p

plus upping from 2.00" piping to 2.25" piping will grant you more power.

My '02 V-8 came with 2.25 pipes---measured at the time I installed a Magnaflow cat-back system.
