any companies out there offer aftermarket warranties for cars older than 5 years? have had no luck so far.

Usually they do not offer them long after the original runs out. But I could be mistaken.

There are warranties companies out there but the ones I've come accross are crap.

I got one with my Mark VIII when I picked it up. Thought it would be nice for the ride back, plus I didn't have to pay for it. When I tried to use it for a tranny issue, they wouldn't cover hardly anything.

yeah i dont want to go with a fly-by-night 'insurance' company for a car like this. but the best-known ones only offer warranties going back 5 years. GRRR

Warranty

I have Mepco for my 00 LS V8.

I've used it for my calipers. Only cost me $100 they paid the rest. Needless to say I only had one done, so it was like a 50/50 split. They wouldnt cover the brake line that was leeking.

They cover nothing on the suspension. They do cover all the electronics so I guess it is a trade off.

I guess if you need a tranny or motor it is worth it.

Huh, that is somewhat good news. I got them just as my fact. warr. ran out. A couple of weeks or whatever after that I got a letter saying I could get something just like the fact. warr. on my LS for like 5 yrs or 125K and I was like "sh!t, did I grab the wrong place!" So ever since then I have been wondering if they would cover things, such as, coils and all that engine stuff.

that's the heart of the question - do they cover the coils and all the other typical '00 problems?

I will check my warranty info book when i get home. I will post what is covered. Around 5:30pm EST

try warrentech-my99 eldo came with it only problem with these co. is they are expensive($2250 for 25k miles or 25 months you pay $100 for any coverd repair)) also if you go on a payment plan and do need major work costing lots of $s they make you pay the bal of warranty off in full-guess this protects them from people signing up getting a tranny fixed then canceling the plan in my opinion it was worth it so far my eldo has had over $2500 of work done and will be needing more

I'll have to dig up my paper work on what Mepco covers, I do not remember how much the whole warranty cost but it was over 2k. I have like 5 or 6 payments to go and its paid for. I guess it could be better than nothing, I'm covered till 2010 or 75K so I suppose 2010 since I do not see 75K before than.

bad experience? id like to hear both sides of the coin.

reason i want one is i purchased an '00 LS V8, great condition but i know :q:q:q:q is going to go wrong on it sooner or later despite the fact its not going to be driven daily.

I was thinking of buying a Ford/Lincoln warranty myself. Would this be a good idea?

I am anxious to hear more about this topic. My '00 LS just broke the 100k mile marker and she is probably going to fall apart soon. I am in the process of replacing the knuckles. I haven't had any issues with the coils that I know of, but I would like to replace them for the heck of it. Any additional info would be great on these aftermarket warranties.

My guess is that you will find very few companies willing to warrant a car that is over a certain age or mileage. It just doesn't make business sense. Cars over 5 years or 100K miles (or whatever) are going to break or have other issues, and can cost a fortune to fix. The odds are not favorable enough for those companies to make money on the warranties, so they don't do it, or if they offer any type of coverage, it is very limited.
