Air recirculation door stuck closed

I was changing the cabin air filter in this 2000 LS I just bought and noticed the recirc door was closed. I messed with the settings and never saw it open. I only want fresh air, not this recirc garbage.

What settings did you mess with?
Have you done a front panel self-diagnostic from the DATC?

I changed many settings: AC, recirc, auto, fan, temp, defrost...

I have not tried self diag.

Recirc is the one to play with. The system will always select fresh air unless you press recirc or the cooling demand is high.
