Air-Ride Compressor Kicks-On Every Time 95' Town Car is Started

Hi Everyone,

I am a long-time forum member but this is my first post I believe. I have a 95' town car executive and every time I start the car the air-ride compressor kicks-on to level the car.

From what I understand, the compressor should only kick-on once or twice a day. I just got the car back from the dealer to do some other work and they went over the whole air-ride system and could not find any leaks whatsoever. Could this be an issue with the ride-height sensor?

If any of you have replaced the ride-height sensor before, is this something easy to do at home?

The air ride system does vent some air. It is normal to hear the compressor kick on in the morning when you start the car. If the car is at it's normal height, then everything is working properly.

GMAN, thank you for the reply. The thing that seems odd to me is the the compressor kicks on every time I turn on the car all day long - not just in the morning. From what I understand, it should only turn on once or twice a day. It seems like as soon as I shut the car off, it releases too much air. Maybe the compressor is just getting old and I'm hearing it more now than in the past?

normal operation, as long as the car sits level.

the rear height sensor isnt hard to change, ive done a few. its a small black box with a arm coming off of it and a small linkage running to the axle

Thanks for the replies....I think the compressor is just getting old and loud so I am hearing it more often

your hearing it more because the isolator bushings are worn out and the metal compressor bracket is contacting the metal body, thus making it loud

I haven't poked around with the air ride at all on this Town Car yet. Can I rebuild the compressor or should I just replace it? Any idea what they run?

you can just get new rubber bushings. just pull one from the compressor and go to your local hardware store and match one up
