I'm going to have a MKVIII shipped by a car carrier. Should I have the air ride on or off? Thanks TONYyyy

I would think you would want it to be off, and probably strap the car down by the lower control arms so it's not pulling down on the suspension.

Depends on the trailer they use. I'd think you'd want it aired up so there's no clearance issues and they can't get it on a trailer

I would leave it on if they use wheel/tire nets to strap the car down (my preferred method).
If the suspension leaks and they tie to the unibody (more than likely to cause damage) they will have to be re tightened as it leaks.

Does it really matter? They system is not active all the time. How long after the car is off does it still try to level? I forget, but its not long. But as mentioned, if it leaks they might have a problem getting it on/off.

I shipped a car from Florida to new jersey. I shut the switch off. By the time it got there it was slammed. Shipper started it up ad switched on the pump. Car came up and made it without damage. The car never fell down again. I don't know why it slammed on the car carrier.

The question is how many shippers know about the switch? Especially on an old car. I guess if I was in this position, I would leave a detailed note on the steering wheel.

This is a case by case scenario as each one of our old Marks behaves different according to its previous use. You are going to have to go with your gut. Whether on or off, either way it's a PITA because if it slams, you better pray that baby pumps back up. Otherwise bringing it off the carrier will be interesting to watch.

After all the info I got, I went with this; Aired up the car and put it on the truck, before closing the door turned air off. Suggested tire straps, or LCA for tie downs. I wasn't there and haven't heard yet what method was used. I have a new battery, and some jacks standing by in case it slammed. It should be here tomorrow, and then we'll know more. Most car carriers are just brokers. I got one that said they had their own trucks, wonder if they ever use them. Car going from WI to CT. Quotes went from $500 to $1150. I took the $700 one. I was brokered to one co and then to another. Car was to be here yesterday. I called the driver, and he said by diner time. His boss calls and says he's stuck in NJ, and I can get my car at 8:30 am. 9:00 am no car. I call the driver and he says he's waiting to pick up a car at the auction, and he'll have my car here before noon. Time will tell. Find a co that has their own fleet, and pay the price. Reliable gave me the 1150 bid, and they use inclosed trucks. Find a co that is not a broker, or you wont know who is hauling your car. Make sure you get a
copy of their insurance. My car should be here within 2 hours, sure ha ha OH YEA I got an e-mail from orginal co saying my car was delivered yesterday, of course their closed today.

About 2 pm car finally got here. Only had front tire straps, but it stayed on the truck. Can't wash it, toooo cold. I'll wipe the white stripes off tomorrow. Very pleased with first inspection.

Glad it got there safe. I feel bad for you. I just got done washing my mark 8 and my mark 4 in shorts and flip flops. I don't think I would ever move back to new jersey.

It has white streaks (road salt) and doesn't look so nice. Were having a heat wave, it way up to 32 degrees. I'll run out and take some pics. No BS I'm really going to get some pics right now.
