Today I started working on the 97. I removed the cross over tube and power steering bracket to remove the rust and paint them black again. While I was in there I noticed the alternator could use some touch ups.

BTW, I also replaced all the blue wire loom with black and it looks a lot better. Thanks for the advice.

Is it possible to take the alt apart and polish the aluminum housing or paint it? if yes, how does one go about doing this? Any help is much appreciated.

I dont want to take off the belt and the alt just to find out there is no way to take it apart.

I would rather paint it, and i'm sure its not a good idea to paint it with the internals still in there. Just curiuos what all is intailed in taking it apart. Guess I'll figure it out within the next week.

I would take it apart if I was going to polish it... I'm planning on doing mine after I get the timing cover done...

It comes apart, just be careful though, there are wires you can break inside...

Yes you can take it apart, I do recomend you spend the x dollars at a salvage yard and take it apart so you learn where all the parts go

You also could tell yourself you need an upgrade and prder one from PA and have it plated, or powder coated.

chad i have a 97 alt that is bad if you want it for the cost of shipping you can take it apart, figure out whats involved, then if you feel comfy doing it, do that case and put your guts in it, its the same alt. its up to you. just figured i would offer!

No pics yet, I want to finish everything before I take more pics. Nothing like a good before and after pics. Then again, I do have a new camera I like to use. Maybe in a few.

OK here are a couple. Keep in mind the engine is VERY dirty right now. I still need to repaint the MARK VIII, PS bracket, and clean everything up real good, but you can see I changed out the loom and painted the crossover tube. More pics to follow with more work.

my powder coating looks to be holding up quite nice. the black loom looks 1,000 x's better dude!

That chrome powder coating looks good. Something I'll have to try out some time.

they have extreme chrome powder now it is insane how close to actual chrome plate it looks. i think thats what i am going to have my wheels done, my snowflakes, we'll see!
