Alternator Question

My alternator is about to go so Im looking for a decent replacement. I found this one for a cobra and Ive searched and I found that we can use the cobra one but will it be a complete easy swap or do I have to change anything to make it work? Thanks for the help! Here is the link.

You know Rich, I guess it's hit and miss with alternators. I've never had any problems from alternators I've purchased from Autozone or O'Reilley's.

The mark alt is 167.27 plus the core and the cobra is 176.94 plus the core...oh and shipping. The cobra alt will require you to alter the mark harness as the cobra plug in is on the other side of the unit.

May I make a suggestion. My Alt. made all sorts of noises and it sounded like the motor was knocking it was so bad. I drove it home on sunday from Martinsville VA to Horseheads Ny and I pulled onto my road where I live and it seized up. I took it off on monday and dropped it off and had it rebuilt. It cost me $70. It needed a bearing, rectifier and a diode. I think that was what was all wrong with it. My suggestion get it rebuilt. Much cheaper.

from what ive seen, ford alts dont like to be rebuilt, let us know how long it lasts

Before I was smart, :p I had one rebuilt at a local place I trusted and have used in the past.
Failed in under a week, searched this site, went to Max"he da man" problem solved.
 
I will differently keep you all posted. My understanding is that the alt. are mitsubishi's. This is what the guy told me. Everything that he has ever done for me before has lasted longer then I own them. Hopefully this will be the case again.

The early gen I cars had the crappy 120 amp Mitsubishi built ones that are nearly impossible to rebuild. Most people swap on a later model more reliable and much easier to rebuild 130 amp unit.

They are better built than the newer ones, and will actually put out more at idle, it all depends on the rebuilder new or old style...
 
I always buy from Orielly and it comes with a lifetime warranty. Can't loose on that. Very easy to replace.

rebuilt the alt myself with parts from a local shop. it is the newer easier to rebuild style. wasn't too hard. works fantastic. 2+ years now.
