Always Something Going Wrong-Door Handle Time

I finally got around to changing the bad u-joints. Things were going well for a few weeks.
I waxed the fresh paint last night with some wizards breathable wax. I stood back and admired my now trouble free shiney car.
Well this morning I go out to my car and open the driver side door as I always do. Well it pulled upwards fine but didn't open. I let go and tried again, the handle just flaps up and down now with no resistance. The interior handle works though.
The doors have always been difficult to open, so if anything, I expected the actual handle to break off.
I don't know what to do, is there a cable that could have broke?
If so, does one have a spare?
Any other suggestions appreciated.
 
Its not a cable. There is a rod that connects the handle to the latch. 90% of the time, the rod just pops out of the latch clip.

Pull the interior door trim panel off and stick you hand inside the door. You should be able to clip it back in and be fine.
 
on my car, 100% of the time, the handle is broken. i've replaced like 5. i've never had the rod come loose. but i guess its possible.

5 door handles? Is there something binding that causes you to have to lift on the handle so hard? That's a lot of handles to be going through. I had the 94 for 5 years and never broke a handle and now the 95 for 2 1/2 years and no broken handle. Need to check that Chris cause you shouldn't be going through so many handles.
 
Its always the arm on the door handle. Every time. Someone hasnt even tried to search for the problem. Its covered more often then "Why is my car flat on the ground?" "What strut rod bushings to get?" "Where can I get an exhaust" "What wheels fit my car?" "Whats that rattle on startup?" etc etc

its not me, its usually the passenger door. i have dumb friends i guess.
and its also not always the handle, its sometimes the frame. i have 3 good handles here in front of me. they all had cracked frames. the handle i could find, the frame was harder, had to get the handle and frame.

but i re-shimmed the door hinges and the chrome conti handles i put in have been good for a long time now. a year or two.
 
Ok, that explains it. The passengers side... I always tell anyone that is getting in on that side before HAND, "pull up on that handle very carefully" but that's just how I am. Everyone in the family and people that know me think I'm obsessed with the car, especially when they hear that I don't drive it in the rain. It's not that at all. I just don't want some clumsy ass person snatching my handle off the door. Just a simple easy pull does it for mine and it pops open enough to grab at the top and do your pulling but non Mark owners just don't understand.

I've got a bajillion frames sitting around. I take them out when I sell the handles, cuz people never want them. I've thrown away lots of them too...
 
So it looks like the small tab that the rod fits into broke off the handle.
Any way to repair this?
 
Like others said, I am pretty sure its the door handle. It could be worse...A few times my door fell off completely when I tried to open it. You can imagine how embarrassing that was. :eek:
 
Anyone have an extra handle they would be willing to part with?

All I can find is a set of chrome ones. I sell them for $50 for the set.

I've got lots of passenger side handles, but only one chrome drivers side, and i'll only sell it with the pass. side.

go to the junkyard dude, there's plenty around, you can get door handles off any 88-02 lincoln continental or any mark viii..this way you learn the right way to take it apart so you don't f*ck your own car up.

btw post some pics of your car on here! i never saw any pictures after your paint job..looks good from your sig pic.
