And who says V8's have poor mpgs?

'00 v8 just made a 10 hour round trip to NJ and back and averaged 24mpg going from 70-85 the whole trip. Check your tire pressure and it pays off!
 
I have a 2005 3.0 V6.

Specs say is is suppose to get 17/24mpg.
I'b ereplaced just about everything on this car and it runs great (right now). So why am I only getting 16/21mpg at best.
Cleaned the intake manifold, new platnium plugs and new COPs, New Michelin Tire with proper pressure, new fuel filter, 93 octane Premium fuel and I even have a K&N air filter in the stock housing.

I mainly drive Hwy miles (close to 80 miles) everyday. What can I do to increase my mpg?
I thought the V6 would be better on gas....
 
O2 sensors and cat efficiency are some things to look at. Is your fuel Ethanol-free? You can check so here: http://pure-gas.org/ The most important IMO are driving habits, and since it's the summer a/c use.

I keep a light foot, keep lots of distance behind cars and I coast to red lights and down the hill. I also try not to drive during peak hours, and I take the more efficient routes to my destinations, mainly those with less left turns and lights. I don't let the car idle for more than a few minutes. I also do rolling stops as much as I can, when safe to do so :shifty: Doing 19MPG with 80% city driving.

Also, driving on with a/c around town will lower your mileage. On the other hand, highway driving proves to be more efficient with a/c on, rather than with windows down.
 
I guess I will check my O2 sensors and cat... I shouldn't have any issues on a car with less than 60K on it.

I drive like you say... coasting to rolling stops. Keep my foot out of the tank and keep distance with cars in front of me. When I replaced the air filter with a K&N I did see a big performace increase. And my mpg increased too. Found out the intake was junked up from the previous owner so I have the dealership clean it. I've cleaned it since then myself. They charged a fortune. In the fall and winter when the AC is not needed I get 17/23. That's the best the car has ever done.

Wish there was a way to convert the car to burn regular octane gas without screwing things up.
 
Both should trigger a CEL when below efficiency though. Have you manually calculated your mileage, or are you simply going by what the computer tells you?

I use http://www.fuelly.com to track mine (it calculates it all for you, just punch in the distance travelled and amount of fuel added).

I manually calculate mine.
Set the trip meter to 0 at fill up.
Next fill up take the amount of miles on the trip meter and divide by the amount of gallons it takes to fill up.

This gives you your mpg average.
 
Just got back from a long road trip. San Diego to Bend, OR to Portland, down the Oregon coast, cutting inland over a 140 mile mountain road (CA 299) and back home. We hit rush hour traffic in LA for about 30 miles. I set the average MPG before we left and when we got home we had achieved 22.1 mpg. Not bad considering the driving I was doing. I have a picture of 409 miles to empty and this tank should yield ~415! Not to shabby for a loaded down V8 LS!

I always get between 24-26 MPG. My driving habits are consistent and a little agressive. Torrie's tune gave me 1.5 MPG increase. I tuned it over 100,000 miles ago, so I will just use the last 100K as a referance. I think that these cars get very reasonable mileage for their age and performance.

Is torrie the one that requires you get 3 tunes for $150? I was told there was a tuner on here that gives 1 tune for $50 but I don't know who that was off the top of my head.

I changed brands of fuel and went from 24.5 combined to 25.6-25.7 in my v6 stick. I really wish I had overdrive/6th gear.
 
Went on a 100km trip today in heavy rain (read: a/c had to be used), though 2 small towns with a few traffic lights, and city driving. Stopped by at the grocery store to pick up some hamburgers. :D

SWEEET!! I figured at the speed I was traveling (75+) and the mountain roads I was driving I would be getting fewer mpg. I have seen 28.5 at 80ish with real, non-ethanol gas.
 
When Torrie tuned my car it cost me $440 I think. That was for the tuner and the tunes. I have 11 tunes in all. It was a good investment I think having someone make me tunes to my specifications rather than just getting generic programming.
 
My main driving is done on I-85 between Auburn and Atlanta (so it's hot and humid the whole way during the summer), and I used to get about 23.5-24 mpgs on the trip. Since I got my Eibachs on in March, however, I see 25 to 26 mpgs on the highway in my 04 V8. Now a days I usually drive between 70 and 75 and the drive train is completely stock for what it's worth.
I try to avoid city driving (living mostly in Auburn means I can ride my bicycle everywhere), but when I do, if I granny it, I can get about 20 around AU, so not too bad. And I'm a cheap ass so I use 89 when I fill it, unless I happen to hit the pump when 93 is "cheap". I don't drive enough anymore to see a difference between the two personally, since I'm most driving I do is just cruising down the interstate.
 
Just flew up to Ohio and bought my new LS. Drove it back to Myrtle Beach, SC. Got 29.79 mpg on the first tank. (hand calculated)
