So I got an est. today from 3 different tranny shops, Lincoln being one of them.
I'm looking at $1,600 to get it fixed. It's the solenoids and valve body.

This is the second time in as many years that I have had to make a large repair to this car. I swore that I would never buy another American car after my last one, now here I am dealing with more trash.

I swear on my mothers life, I won't buy another American car for a LONG ass time. I'm really pissed off about this. There is just absolutely no excuse for this what so ever. This thing will be paid off in a year and I'm going to dump it and go to Honda, Acura, Lexus, or Toyota. No wonder our car companies are going out of business. You can only wave an American flag in your customers face for so long, eventually they are going to realize you're selling them :q:q:q:q.

if you're talking about expensive repairs, stay away from everyone of those brands you just named except honda, and if you think they don't break just as much if not more as american cars, you're out of your mind. Good luck tho! you didnt buy a warranty? or was it already up?

FCK my LINCOLN ls (everyone has an opinion pls respect mine) ive had my car for 2 1/2 years and its been to the shop four times and each time over 2 days, now im working on the 5th shop visit........ over $2,000 in repairs and i only drive 20 miles a day. i dont think its my fault cause i pamperd the car. thats why i hate this car 2003 V8 LS

now im going for a 2004 MBZ S430/500, 2004 LEXUS LS430 or SRT8 CHARGER

i probably got a defected one, well this is my opinion i hope i dont offend no one even though i probably will...

I had 2 LS's (2000 V8 Sport and 2003 Premium Sport) and never had any issues not covered under warranty.

I am sure the guys who bought my used cars had or will have issues they had to pay for unless they purchased an extended warranty.

Now I have a used M5 not under warranty. Do you think I am going to buy an extended warranty? You bet your A$$ I will. Repairs to thye beast make the LS seem cheap...

The main issue is that the LS is like a European Sports Sedan in terms of it's capabilities and repair costs but the used car price (and the new price from Lincoln due to massive discounts) make the car look cheap. This is not the case. It is on par with a BMW or MB and that is why repairs are costly...

Don't know what to tell ya.

Over 2 yrs of owning. bought at 32k have 76+k now. Front brakes are my only repair. A/C filters, oil changes and choosing to mod don't really count.

I would suggest beating your car. I WOT all the time at least once a day and have around 130-150 1/4mile passes.

Edit: And 20s for those who think those hurt your car.

The LS is no dream car and has its faults, Id like to see you come out of the shop paying less than $2K for 1 repair on the Benz or the Lexus.

yeah i know its expensive service for those cars but i heard they dont break down often, i guess my LS just had TOO MANY faults, i love it when it runs but when i breaks down its a nightmare...

Hey add that you NEED to do a burnout at least once a day. :D

I had to replace the solenoid pack 2 times on my car and each time it costed about $800. The second time the dealer changed it with the valve body so the price was double. I haven't had any problems (knock on the damn wood) after that with the tranny. First time it was at about 55k miles right after the warranty finished and the second time was at about 80k miles if I remember correctly. Now I have over 135k miles on my car.

:L (this is the first time ever I used this sign)

Mine doesn't do it at all, especially with these tires.

I dig the Jag wheels really. If I hadn't scored my Lussos so cheap I would have seriously went a similar route. Once they are on for the summer its hard to take them off. For track season the stock 17s are lightest.

^Hey Milwaukee....

Kinda new to the area. Any great places for rims and tires???

Sorry to jack the thread. But yea...I havent had my car for 2 weeks and put 900 into it...of course no warranty cuz i bought from private seller. Is was hella cheap so I guess I dont mind as much, but yea.

you can still buy aftermarket warranties even if you buy from a 3rd party.

you should do some research on this wonderful tool called the internet, look at the customer satisfaction rates/recalls/service trips there are for the mercedes, toyota, lexus, honda or acura and compare them to FLM or even GM.

Take a wild guess at what the top 5 most dependable cars are?(ranked by JD power and assoc.)

Just get a Subaru if you want reliable, I've had over 2000 dollars in repairs for my LS, but god dammit I love my Lincoln and I would never sell it.

is the ls a little too sophisticated to run without any problems for 100 thousand miles?

My experience foreign and domestic:

1988 Mustang GT bought new, sold with 60k. Clutch went out with less than 1,000 miles and was replaced under warranty. Other than that no problems whatsoever.

1994 Chrysler LHS bought new, sold with 80k. Timing chain at 40k, water pump at 60k, $2,000 worth of A/C repairs and they never got it fixed. Lots of other little problems I can't exactly remember

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee bought used with 18k, still running with 130k. Water pump and timing chain around 80k, A/C quit a couple of years ago but never bothered to fix.

1997 Maxima SE bought new, sold 36k. No problems.

1997 BMW 740i bought used with 36k, sold 45k. Electrical gremlins that caused the batteries to keep going dead. $3,000 in repairs and they never did figure it out.

1995 Lexus SC400 bought used with 65k, sold with 100k. No problems.

1997 Toyota Avalon bought used 45k, sold 105k. Coils, ABS brakes, rack&pinion, power steering pump, timing belt, paint on the hood peeled off, factory stereo died.

2004 Lincoln LS bought used with 21k, currently 30k. Been in for warranty repairs 8 times, 4 times it had to be towed. Coils, intake manifold, O2 sensors, PCM, trans solenoids, throttle body, mass air meter. Have performed TSB to get rid of steering squeak twice, still have intermittent issues. Still has an intermittent miss usually after a rain or car wash but have been unable to duplicate at dealer.

The sick thing is, even with all the problems I have had with my LS it is still the best car I have ever owned. I would probably think differently if I had to pay for the repairs, but so far they have covered everything. I will definately dump it before the warranty is up though.

2002 V8 LSE here. Bought new 12/2002. 87k miles now.

-Transmission has been flawless, mechanically. Had the fluid flushed at around 78k just for the heck of it. (performance-wise, the inherent shifting delays are still annoying, especially compared to the quick, firm shifts of my 8 year old automatic M3 Vert with 80k miles)
-Caught the valve cover gasket leak early, so no coils were damaged. Still running all original coils. Replaced the plugs while the valve cover was off. So in short, engine has been fine and running strong. Never stranded.
-Cooling system. Degas bottle cracked last year, replaced myself for around $80 or so? Currently experiencing another overheat issue that I feel is related to a dying thermostat. Cost of thermostat is $20 or so. Not stranded.
-Electrical system. Factory head unit replaced once under warranty (it died), and alternator replaced twice. Second time was my fault for going with an Advance Auto brand rebuild vs a Motorcraft part.
-Emissions system. Exhaust, O2 sensors, etc. All original, no problems.
-Braking System including ABS and traction control. Flawless.
-Suspension. Lowered with Eibachs and replaced the shocks while I was at it. Other than that, almost flawless. When it gets cold, the first 2-3 times the front suspension compresses, there is a front end creak that I havent figured out.

So in short, I've never had to pay for any sort of repair labor on this car yet, (except for the valve cover gasket and alternator replacemet) and I've never been stranded. This is by far the most reliable car I've ever owned..(just got the M3 on January..too soon to compare that one).(previously I've had 3 Jettas, a new 318is from 1992-1999, and a V6 LS from 1999 to 2002)

For all you guys having major problems with your LS, I just chalk it up to Bad Carma.

I've had three "new" LS's and have never required any major warranty work on any of them. My LS History:

2001 V8, 65,000 miles, one rear window regulator and one fogging headlight.

2003 V8, 63,000 miles, sagging headliner and transmission reflash.

2006 V8, 20,000 miles, no warranty work.

Of course we hear more about the complaints than the praises, and I have no problem hearing about your complaints. But what I do get tired of is ALL THE WHINING! If you hate your car, if you bought the wrong car, if you don't want your car, if you can't drive your car, if you can't afford your car, if your car is always broken and you can't get it fix........

THEN GET RID OF THE DAMN CAR ALREADY!

I purchased an aftermarket warranty, 2 weeks later I was in for VCG, coils, rebuilt tranny, cost me $100. I'm just saying buy a warranty this time, cars break.

Honestly with the exception of the Honda, all those cars mentioned only cost a little less to repair the same trouble some parts as the LS. The thing is they don't break as often as the ones on the LS. I have seen so many arguments about the quality of this car before I joined and it seems that the people that complain usually end up ditching the car and the people that stood up for the car finally have the first issue and go nuts. F this Fthat.

I really feel the price of the factory parts for this car, not aftermarket but factory, are not that much more than "ALLOT" of other cars factory parts. Its the aftermarket that is cheap as hell for most other cars, but its reliability factor SUCKS!

I have had 2 sets of COP's 2 windows needed repair for the stupid coming off of track thing but it was the same damn side and window. My Trans 2 times along with the re-tune the first week I bought the car, blah, blah, blah.

Now having a warranty is one thing seeing on how it covers most parts considered a problem, but when the warranty is up and those same parts do the same thing annually it adds up to double the amount of what the car is worth only a year after you bought it even with putting low miles on. Go figure that out. My warranty is about up and I have to take the car in for repairs to the same damn things that happened around this same time of year last year once again.

And its not bad karma, there is lots of cars that are almost ancient that have been beaten what would seem to be to death but still work better than the LS and have everything in its original state except for typical wear and tear items. Then you have the cars that look physically almost demolished and the same goes for them, they can still mechanically be more reliable than the LS.

All this being said I AM NOT COMPLAINING, I can handle it. I am just stating my opinion.:)
