Another one bites the dust.

Damn, I'm sorry to see that happen to you and your car. I don't know about the damage being minimal, looks like the whole front of the unibody could be a bit tweaked.

I had some stupid fat bitch on a phone try to kill me like a month ago. I was going straight just cruising along and she literally turned left right in front of me(on my green light) making me slam the brakes to avoid hitting her and this big F350 behind me almost rear-ended my car and only avoided me by swerving to the right into the unoccupied lane by me. This stupid biatch looked like she was TEXTING while turning left and not paying any attention at all to the road at all:eek: Needless to say I honked at her then turned right and followed her at a safe distance with my high beams on continuing to mash the horn button for what seemed like a minute before finally getting off her tail. Probably a bad idea I know, but I was pissed and wanted to kindly let her know that her behavior wasn't acceptable.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE REBUILD IT!!! Don't let something like this pull you down. That car looked beautiful & the damage isn't that much. Look it over when you are not so pissed at the situation, find out how much $$$ it's going to cost you & attack it little by little. Good luck!

PS: I'll buy that driver's side headlamp from you RIGHT NOW! lol... Actually I would! Let me know if you'd like to sell it.

Man, sorry for your loss. Buy a gen II and then fix this one up, the damage doesn't look that bad. Header panel looks fine. You just need a hood, grille, bumper, headlights, chrome lip, and paint.

I didn't see any fire damage? At least it was just a Gen 1.... jk

I'd buy it back if it had no fire damage.

I was about a block ahead of Mike when this happened....

In my rearview It looked like something had happened, so I went around the block and came back. The horn was stuck on Mikes mark, and he was already out of the car. I was getting ready to get the horn unstuck when he said that we had to get the battery unhooked, as there was smoke starting to come out of the dash on the passenger side. People at the scene kept saying it was airbag smoke but this was a few minutes after the accident happened. Also, I know wire smoke when I smell it. So Mike and I stood on the front of the car and yanked the hood open and he cut the positive cable with my knife, and the smoke stopped. Hopefully the damage is minimal, but we'll have to get into the dash to find out. It was getting bad enough that I was looking for an extinguisher.

Body wise, the entire front end is trashed, and there is some body tweak. The inner apron area just in front of the strut tower is tweaked and has a bit of a kink to it and is shoved toward the driver side.

Only question I have, does anybody know is the front apron and structure assembly welded or bolted to the rest of the car?

I'm taking my DSLR with me to the lot later today and we'll get some hi-res pics and post them later.

That sucks... poor cars of ours are dropping like flies!! :(

I may have some usable parts soon as well.

Also, the inner structure is spot welded together. Chances are, if he can get it to a frame shop, they could tug it straight, then, worst case, put a core support in it. (Which I have one of on my parts car) Core supports on these cars are extremely easy.

I certainly hope you keep it and fix it.

BTW, where did you get the chrome pipe under your hood to mate the factory air tube to the MAF? I'll be doing something like that real soon.

That sucks man; if you were close I have just about all the parts you need to fix that, except grille and head lights. Buy it back, make it your every day car and use the ins money to get your Gen II and swap the goodies over.

By looking at this it looks like the core is Ok.
If core is ok, everything is a bolt on to fix it.

Its totaled.
Don't let them beat you down on what they will pay you.
Its %100 her fault.
Make sure its in the police report that she was on the phone.

For the right buy back price its worth fixing.

You would have to hook power up to it to find the source of the smoke.

Good luck, at least that new born wasn't in the car.
Cars can be fixed/ replaced.

Thanks guys we talked it over last night and its coming home today if i can find a nice gen 2 that needs some minor work and has good miles we'll get it and swap everything over. If not I'll just start to rebuild this one and get the wifey the navigator she has wanted so badly. they gave me a rough estimate on the payout at 3800 not including my Macbook pro or the carseats either, they are going to cover both of those as well.

sorry about the car. happy about the mac. buy a pc and take the extra cash you save and invest it back into the lincoln

if they give you 3800 i could prob get 5k for mine..hmmm.

You should beable to get a decent g2 for that much w/ a little left over.

Id have to buy 100 PC's as back ups for the first one after it crashes when I ask it to do some intense processing.

Sorry for your loss. But its good to see you werent injured and the bag deployed.

So if you have physical property of value in the vehicle they cover that too?

Damn

It sucks to see such a nice first gen get hit like that. There's not alot of nice ones left. 2nd gen's are still replaceable but you've really gotta dig to find a first gen in good shape anymore.

Well, Mike got the check for his car, and he bought his car back. I was going to rebuild the car for my daughter, but I sent pics to my friend that graduated Wyotech and he pointed out a few things. I will be stripping the car down to get parts for my Gen 1's, and I'll get some better pics, but bottom line is: Passenger Upper rail is bent down and over, passenger apron actually has a 90 degree fold in it, core support is shoved in and over, the bumper is shoved over sufficiently far that is had to do damage to the front frame where the bumper mounts. It appears to have actually shoved the driver Upper Rail over as well, but a frame machine would be in order anyways.

So all this adds up to, unfortunate as it is, the title says it: another Gen 1 bites the dust.

That's no good. Sorry to hear that. Where did he get that chrome elbow for the air intake? And is that an original LMS ice box around the filter?

Mike, if you decide to fix it, I have the chrome trim piece, and the the support bracket that the headlight housings sit in. (I don't know what that piece is called.) As far as that Gen 2 is concerned down here, I am going to look at it for you Saturday and take some pics of it.

Even if it is bent, there are ways to fix everything.... :) heater cores are not that hard.

I bought it back to get my parts off it they offered me 5400 for it and 4700 after buy back. I'm on my way now to get the gen 2 in Il. That elbow I got at advance auto and it's just a piece of sheat metal I bent and trimmed it actually looks like azz it was a temp/trial idea. Since webvette isnt going to fix it I may give it to my father in law for his 67 galaxie project. But I'll be pulling all of the new crap I just put on in the last month. It was only back on the road for a week.
