any comments on this so called fuel saver

Everyone should run to the stores right now and pick up some nail polish remover an dump it in their tank.

Good lord. *shakes head*

Science does not always involve studies in which 100% of the variables are under the control of the scientists.

Nope, only the valid tests are like this.

"Dr",

So you think every pharmaceutical study in which the study participants weren't 100% under the control of the researchers is invalid? There are thousands of variables in those studies that simply CANNOT be controlled, yet you probably take or have taken prescription drugs. I'm positive you have, yet you claim to not believe any statement until backed by a 100% controlled scientific study. And I highly doubt you read all the study data before taking the drug.

Sh*t, there are prescription medications on the market that even the manufacturers do not understand entirely why they work. Like, for example, modafinil which is well-known to allow the user the ability to stay awake for as many as 3 days straight without any undue fatigue after a normal night's sleep. This effect, although heavily documented, is not entirely understood by science.

I suppose you would doubt the presence of gravity because Newton didn't have a laboratory.

i thought I was the only one who knew about modafinil!

Poor allegory, since the human mind/body doesn't react predictably. There are comparably a tiny fraction of variables in what essentially amounts to a mechanical air pump as there are in the most complex machine in existence, the human body.

In other words, your example isn't relevant.

I just started a few days ago I will let you know after a few tanks so I can average it out. some friends of mine swear that it helps.
the acetone did not net me any fuel improvement at all. now I know for sure it doesn't work. MYTH BUSTED....:leghumper

I sure wish I could get better mileage, It does good on the freeway but only around 15 mpg in town. A lot of stop an go traffic I guess, and when I get on it...well forget about it!

Well there are a few things that you can do that will help your mileage.

1. LEARN TO CONTROL that damm foot of yours in town. This of course is the biggest and best way to improve the mileage. Roll into the throttle and do not mash it down. The smoother transition will help the mileage.
2. Monitor your tire pressures like a hawk. Also keep them to the higher side of your comfort range. Remember higher pressure equals harder tire, which equals less rolling resistance. Less resistance will give better mileage.
3. Try to anticipate the traffic and roll out of the gas for lights that you know you will have to stop for. While you are at it learn to stop later smoothly (it can be done), that will allow you to roll longer and make more use of your momentum.

4. investigate a transmission shift kit that will allow your trans to shift quicker and firmer. A quicker and firmer shift will reduce fuel wasted when the transmission is shifting between gears. I know that this is the opposite of most automatic transmissions designs (they all shift slower and softer to seem silky smooth), but that is one of the compromises.

Anything else that you can think of that will keep the power that your engine is making from going to the rear wheels and pushing the car along is a waste.

I guess that it would be much easier......................

I don't tear people down. If people believe a claim that is utterly false and absurd, I tell the that their belief is utterly false and absurd. If people choose to be offended because they were misled by so-called "experts" who have "evidence" which may, on the surface, appear to be legitimate by the untrained eye - that is their problem.

It is not entirely their fault. They are taking at face value the claims of some unknown provider of information without appropriate skepticism or research. I am simply debunking that claim. They may not initially have had the tools/understanding to make an appropriate evaluation of the claim.

What is unfortunate, (and this doesn't apply only to cars) is that people often choose to dig in, and defend their unenlightened position rather than read/understand what has been presented to them and make an informed evaluation of the facts at hand. The would rather cling tightly to a 'gut feeling' than make a decision based on empirical evidence, simply because it reinforces their preconceived notions about their expertise in the matter.

Feel free to put me on your ignore list. I understand your reasons and don't harbor resentment toward you for it.

Paul.

I guess that it would be much easier to swallow your advice if it just did not seem to be so sarcastic. If you want to debunk a myth, don't just tell someone that it is bull:q:q:q:q, smoke and mirrors, and or snakeoil. Tell them why it is so. And explain it without the name calling and condescending attitude. You say that acetone does not work, tell them why it does not work. Show them your laboratory results. Tell them that you personally tested it and found out that it did not work. Because by just telling them that it does not work, because you read or someone told you that it does not work is no different than some saying that it does work for the same reasons. You are trying to debunk a myth with the same facts as the person who created the myth. Where is your scientific proof that it does not work?? Is it in the same report that says it does?

All that I am trying to say is if you want to give advice to all of us on this board who are obviously not as intelligent as you, be a little nicer. Damn, I just did the exact same thing that you do. My Bad.
