I have been replacing one here one there over the past few years. I would like to replace all 8 and be done with it. At lest for awhile!
2 of the bad coils were clean and dry, 1 smelled real bad. 1 was wet with oil but not drenched or flooded.
Reading the other forums there doesn’t seem to be a brand of coil better the any other.

I found a whole set of 8 on Ebay fore $115.00

Or I can get OEM for 42.69

i did the whole 8 with ones from Global Auto on Ebay about 2years ago. All has been fine since then

I replaced mine with a set from Accel. I'm going to put another set in along with my engine change. Looking at using the sort of set-up that comes on some chibbie V-8s. More soon.

When they mean OEM they mean motorcraft, find someone to wholesale them to you, they aren't that expensive, accel is junk, seen too many of them fail withing just months.

MSD, which are now listed on Summit for the LS thanks to me.

Are the MSD coils part# 82438 for about $360? I was thinking of getting a set of Granatelli cop's from Jegs. They are around $200 but they are for a Mustang. Do the MSD's bolt up properly like the factory coils? I'm also thinking about fabricating a custom aluminum cop cover with some breather style vents to accomodate the harness plugs.

***This one is the old part number has been replaced by the DG-529 now costing more than quoted on that site. I wonder if they have a lot of the old number in stock??The current part number is $54.15 each LVC cost.
It also sounds like it is Valve Cover Gasket time if there is any oil on that boot for the coil.

neither of my two ebay sets lasted a full year...

while not a total failure, every once in a while, you could feel a random misfire.

From my foray into this earlier this year, I found that the Packaged OEM are actually SMP. No reason to pay for the etching and Motorcraft bag. Buy SMP directly from Rock Auto. DO BE AWARE they make 2 versions - OEM standard and what they termed 'economy'. The economy are also distributed by rock auto, and by ebay/amazon (with different names on latter). I took another tack and went Delphi (GM) and I was impressed at the quality on inspection. They are in now and run smooth, we will see how long they last.
