Just asking the question if theres any possible way to make a 2004 mustang trans work in my 93 mark viii i guess I forgot that you couldnt use them and bought one... ugh

i am pretty sure 2004 is the last year you CAn use,2005 where 5 speed autos
i got a 2002 that works wonderful and if i remember correctly i could have used a 2004

This 04 trans doesnt have the teeth on the output shaft for the speedo to run off of. :( do I need the speedo to make the car shift?

Hey, mmaker, how hard is it to swap the output shafts? I am taking an auto trans class right now at my college but havent taken one apart yet and they wont let us do ford or chevy (I signed up for Chrysler)

for everyone who wants to see the difference in the outputshafts heres some pics i took of them for ya
93 output shaft gears are what contact the speedo gear.

04 output shaft notice its smooth there...

Yup, thats a problem.

I don't know where Easton is but I assume it isn't close to Indianapolis, IN. If you were close I could have that swapped for you in about 20 minutes.

Yeah I am in Eastern Pa... I found a video last night that shows dissassembly for the 4r70w doesn't seem that bad except that I need to buy a puller for the pump... Im gonna dissassemble the old one and if i have problems and dont think i can reassembly the new one I am gonna take it to a trans shop and have em swap them for me

Not to highjack the thread but what would be the best year 4r70w trans to go with? I was looking at one from a Mach 1, also found a few from an 01-02 mustang GT.

Why wont the 5 speed auto work?

Completely different computer controls.... I guess you could get it to work if you had wheel speed sensors for a speedo some kinda aftermarket computer one like they would use in a restomod. (60s car with new driveline) Dont quote me on that though...

i am curious can i go out and buy a trans from a newer mustang bolt it right up,plug it in and im all good to go ?????

Sorta, theres things you still have to change, one thing is repinning your trans harness. Other thing is swapping the shifter selector.

quick little update got that trans pulled apart tonight in about 2 hours... not sure if it was nessacary to pull the valve body out and all of the accumulators and pistons but I did it anyhow.

The pics dont show the output shaft out but it just pulls out to the front with a little pushing on the output shaft from the back.

Yeah, you have to pull the valve body to get the overdrive and reverse servo's out so that you can take the internals out.

Its pretty easy to take a transmission apart and put it back together as long as you don't got very involved in it. Just make sure that you keep all the sealing rings on the output shaft in good shape while you replace it.
