anyone know how to convert to MT

I think he was referring to the automatics in both. Again those trannys are built to handle power, and were built to be a sports car tranny. I've driven both cars before and it's night and day comparing those cars to a LS. M3 paddle shifters are instant, no lag. The LS is a luxury car with a sporty mindset, not the other way around.

Hense the art of tuning!

And we're right back with money. With enough of it this will work just fine. When does the cost outweigh the "benefit"? The electronics are so intertwined that everything is connected. The pcm needs to know engine load to determine when to turn on the cooling fan (and how much) when the A/C is running. It gets part of that puzzle piece from the transmission (gear, pressures, etc.). If the computer doesn't know what gear is selected it doesn't really know engine load. Ever hear the "mystery beep"? That is an extremely short loss of communication from the pcm to the transmission.

There is very little (if any) "direct" wiring in the ('03+) LS, everything goes through the pcm/computer. You hit hit the brakes, the signal goes to the computer/pcm and the pcm tells the (IIRC) rem to illuminate the lights.

Anyway, with enough money anything is possible.

Actually, there is no "communications" between the PCM and the transmission. It just reads sensors signals and drives solenoids. Certainly, some mystery beeps are due to bad signals from the sensors in the transmission, but there is not a single source of mystery beeps. I've had mystery beeps due to transient fuel level sender faults, communication faults to the REM, transient bulb minder detections, and probably some things that I have missed.

i need some help on getting my v8 Ls gen2 to stick any ideas ???

If you have to ask, your LS will never be a stick. There is a great deal of specialized expertise involved in design, handling potential hiccups, sourcing parts (thanks cammerfe for prividing some links), etc. If you yourself do not have any of the skillsets, the labor/time involved in hiring it all out would not prove to be beneficial moneywise. Unless you have bottomless bank accounts. And if that's the case, I would like to be your friend.

well pragmatic with that thinking you should sit in a chair and never move, well actually on the ground, cars where more automated than horses so with your thinking we should have never quit riding a horse. But what I am saying there is no crazy benefit to driving a manual around all day.. if you need a manual to feel cool that's fine. I will never daily a manual car. I have driven them they are fun and all but totally unnecessary to go to work.

How dare you be reasonable about this...

To the OP converting to a manual is possibly, but I'm sure it'll take much more money than it's worth.

I will never daily a manual car. I have driven them they are fun and all but totally unnecessary to go to work.

I loved my S10 5 speed as a daily driver. Now stopping on an incline with some azzhat right on your bumper wasn't fun, but you got used to it.

actually most manual transmissions are simpler with fewer parts, weigh less and are more efficient. just in the past few years have auto trans stepped up their game to be close to/as efficient.

better fuel economy, less power loss, and more control, it has nothing to do with feeling cool. just because You dont want a manual trans doesnt make them just a cool factor item.

i get it, not everybody can handle three pedals with only two feet, i'm not saying that there should only be a manual option for the LS, but it would be nice to at least have the option to choose from an auto or manual instead of being forced to drive a handicapped manualish trans designed for women and the elderly

Well that's what happens when you a read a post too literally.

I don't fear the self driving car because it will be dangerous, its not hard to get even buggy software to drive better than 90% of the drivers. What I fear, is what I fear about automatics, is how they'll changed the public mindset and the design of cars.

20 years from now, when self driving cars are popular the choice of self driving cars will be small and either expensive toys or POS economy cars. This has already happened with manuals. The choice of a RWD manual is limited to mostly BMW and Porsche, with Cadillac and Infiniti the sole holdouts in moderately priced cars. Other than the S10 (or what ever it is called now) you can't get an American pick-up with a manual.

The prevailing thought will be “there is no crazy benefit to self driving driving a car around all day.. if you need to self drive to feel cool that's fine. I will never daily self drive a car. I have driven cars they are fun and all but totally unnecessary to go to work.”

That is a thought to fear, that the general public has (will) become so far removed from the driving process that they do not even realize what they are missing.
