Hey ... any of you guys running 17 inch rims, what size tire seems to fit the best in the wheel wells ?

The OEM 225/60/16 inch tires had a diameter of about 26.5 inches and a tread width of almost 9 inches. It would appear that a 265/45/17 would come pretty close to the diameter, but would be about 1 1/2 inches wider in tread.

Anyone have any actual recommendations as to what will fit ?

I have 17" on my Mark VIII, the tire size I have is 225/55R/17 I haven't had any problems with the scraping

245/50/17 fits as well. I like it cause it's not as low of a profile as a 45, but they don't make very many in this size.

Jamler3 has 255/50/17s on his car.

I've got 275/40/17 all the way around (Nittos 555R's) People said I was crazy but I love how the car handles with them on. The fronts rub a little when I turn the wheel completely one way or the other (just on the plastic engine gaurd thing).

LOL. I never knew you had 275's in the front as well... You are crazy. :Beer

did that so when I go to rotate them there isn't a problem! If people keep calling me crazy I may start believing it :Beer

What does this have to do with 17" wheels

In the 255/50/17 size... there is no speedo difference and the sidewall is 0.3 shorter than stock 225/60/16, so the tire fills the wheel well nicely w/out sticking out. This is the widest I would go on the front. You WILL need a .25" spacer up front, but after that there is 0 rub in the steering through the entire range of the wheel. Since I'm running all 4 in that size, it also allows for rotation, which allows for me to keep more of my pay. :Beer

If your rims are 17"x 9" you could run 255x45x17. These are only abour 1\2" short of stock height. Advantage is this size is widely available in performance ratings at a reasonable price. Tuck in well and good traction. Slight front rubbing at full wheel turn when backing was eliminated by slight grinding of upper control arms.

After an extensive search on Tire Rack .... 245/50/17 seems to be the same 26.7 inch diameter as the OEM 225/60/17.

All other sizes seem to be taller or shorter. Probably a "NIT" to most people, but 1/2 inch difference equals 4 mph error at 60 mph
