Austin's 98 Mark VIII Build thread

what head unit you looking at putting in? i was going to put a pioneer avh-p3200 in mine, but put it in the truck.

It doesn't take much to please me, and I like very straight forward designs, so I went with the WalMart Dual SX5250. Gets the job done pretty well without getting in the way. I'm not ready, yet, to build up a top of the line system.

I've had a couple Pioneers as well as several Sonys. I liked the output from my Pioneer units, but the design was cumbersome and hard to deal with. The Sonys I've had are by far the best bang for the buck with a straight forward layout.

The harness to plug in the light should run up the drivers side hinge of the trunk.
If you find it, and there is no plug let me know, I had to hard wire mine so I can tell you which wire goes were.

I have no idea how the trim comes off, I would tape off the light, sand prep, and paint it if you want to get away form the chrome, also do the front grill, give it the LSC treatment.

Looks like I will have to hard wire it, seems pretty easy though. What goes where?

I'm going to investigate the light... if I can find the original paint color I'll do the LSC treatment.

The light has a green, red, and two black.
One black has a grounding strap, that gets grounded to the trunk right by the light, or any good body ground.

The harness on the body has a black, green, and a brown.

black goes to black.

The green on the light goes to the brown on the harness.

The red on the light goes to the green on the harness.

Hope this helps, good luck.

Looks like all I've got to work with is a wire coming from either side of the light and the ground wire. Neither of the two wires are colored.

Found out I don't have the ballast... oh well for now.

Took some pics today, nothing fancy though.
